If your parking under a shed that should help a lot. In Vegas we are in total sun. No shade at all. You should have no problem.

Just down the road from me! I’m going to be helping out another member install one on his. Maybe we can get yours done too. If you got your trailer from Lone star, talk to Scott in parts. He got me the AC, chill grill and t-stat to match my bedroom unit.

Uh oh! After 15k miles, my Sailun S637s have ugly wear on all the shoulders. I’ve wrote here last year, at 5900 miles, about the shoulder drop off inside and oustside, and was occurring on all four tires. But now, it’s getting extreme with harsh wear irregularities. Trailer still tows beautifully. All tires were spin balanced.

This is the driver side front lead tire.

I can’t imagine this could all from tire scrubbing from left and right turn maneuvering on asphalt. But from wear charts, this looks textbook for too low pressure. But it’s certainly not even. At first I was running 85 psi, then after upgrading to metal valve stems, 110psi. Then after much conversing with a Sailun rep, ha! exactly a year ago today in my records, he advised me to keep 70-75 psi cold due to the 12100 lbs wt on the trailer axles. He also said that my rims are 6” width and should be 6.5” and that’s why I’m seeing the balloon effect or shoulder drop off. So I reset them to 85 psi cold, towed thousands of miles and now they’re at 82 psi cold and heat up to 93-4 psi hot at 65 mph.

Anyone know what’s really happening here?

I agree it looks like a low pressure problem. Maybe to late but I think I would pump them up to a least a 100 and see if the middle would wear.

On straight road, the shoulders don’t touch the surface at all, about 3/4” from both edges. Seems quite strange to have all these various rub outs. I certainly wanna believe increasing the pressure is the way to go. I turned the rig over to Jayco today for last warranty work, so It’ll have to wait until I get it back.

I have those too on this 16 I just bought. I have put 300 miles on them. Don't know when they were put on the trailer, date codes are ##17 so fairly new. I have one that is wearing lightly on the shoulder. Weird enough its on the dining slide which is lighter. Air is just above 100 and I have rotated them in a X pattern. All bearings are freshly packed etc.

With low pressure I would expect to see full wear on the sides and less in the middle and opposite with high pressure. I would think a smaller width wheel would make the tire taller in the middle not spreading the tire as flat as possible. So opposite what the tire guy said, dskyward.

That is odd looking wear. Looks like the outer tread ribs have been attacked with a grinder. Something is really scrubbing away at the shoulders and it looks like it’s happening to all 4 tires pretty much equally.
Some kind of alignment issue causing your 5th to dance side to side slightly as it goes down the road?
Tire belts coming loose and causing them to “creep” as they roll making the shoulders pucker?
Do you rotate the tires side to side? I think early radials didn’t like changing sides.

Really strange, let us know if you find the cause.

If the wear is only happening on the outside rib, that would suggest too much positive camber.

A low pressure situation should cause wear on inside and outside rib, as the center bows in due to underinflation, leaving the sidewalls to do most of the carrying.

I’ve not rotated any of the tires since new. Those first two pictures are the same lead driver tire. I first saw that ‘triangular slice’ on the inside passenger rear at arrival of last campsite (Jul 20)when putting on my wheel covers, and thought what the hells this? That same RR tire was repaired on Jun 1 for a 1/2” bolt puncture I ran over in Lumberton TX crossing a RR track on Memorial Day. I knew about the shoulder cove wear, but I did not see any bad spots when I watched the guy turn and repair it, nor did he bring to my attention any such, as a brand new Sailun was right there on hand in case the puncture was unserviceable. FWIW- that was a $20 repair instead of $175, and it has held perfect air since (or 1144 miles). Then yesterday, leaving for Jayco Service, I saw the terrible wear on the inside front driver. I confirmed all four tires are getting this crazy gouging wear pattern. Jayco will have it for the next couple weeks or so and I’ll be sure and air them up to 105 psi.

The main thing I wish to point out here in this mystery, is that with pressure at 85 psi early on, only the middle four ribs made road contact, evident when I pull into a stop and see the white powder in the parking lot absent on the inner and outer 1/2” or so of all four tires.

However, a crazy thought scenario- what about severe chucking as we hit some ugly highway rhythmic bouncing during our Michigan trip, which was like riding a horse? As the camper is bouncing and rocking up and down could the outer shoulders scrub on the downward stroke?

Tom? you getting anything like this on your Sailuns? How many miles do you have on your set?

I have some wear on the outside of mine but nothing like yours. I have something like 10-11k miles on mine.
