newbie 5th wheel question

I am looking at purchasing a 2015 Jayco Eagle HT 27.5 rlts. This unit comes with (according to the purchase order) "pin box, cequent-Revolution 16k" - what is this? Is the helper pin box that was created for 5.5" beds? I have a 6.5", do I need this? Do I need a slider, plus this? confused....

I believe that is the Reese Revolution has the option to pivot at the king pin or back at the trailer mount. This allows tight turns without a slider. I have a 6.5' box and the Revolution no issues with tight turns right up to 90 degrees without hitting cab

A lot of people say that you need a slider with a 6.5' bed, or shorter, but that's not always the case. My very square-front Komfort would NOT hit my cab going forward at full lock, R or L. ALL will hit in reverse; the slider just gives you more room before you =do= hit. The Revolution, as stated, uses a wedge to keep the FW from turning on the king pin and, instead, moves the pivot back under the front of the FW, effectively making your bed "longer". The Revolution-style pin boxes will =not= work with all FW hitches, specifically the B&W Companions. They =all= come with warnings against using them with any pin box that moves the pivot point off the king pin. A lot of people like the Revolution-style pin boxes and a lot like a standard pin box. Personally, I'll stick with my B&W Companion... If you do decide on a standard pin box, make sure you don't trade it straight across, as the Revolution costs a whole lot more than a standard pin box. :-)

I have the revolution and love it. It can be locked with 2 bolts and remove the wedge and it's a standard pin box rotating at the king pin as well.

I have one too, but until reading this thread I had no idea of its features. Watched a youtube video on it at etrailer.com and was surprised.

When we got our first (and current, soon to be replaced) fifth wheel we went through the same thing. I read a lot of comments saying a slider wasn't needed, or they have one and barely use it. Then you see the occasional picture of a crunched cab our shattered rear window. That was enough to convince me to get a Pullrite Super Glide. Could I get by without it? Probably. Do I regret getting it? Nope.

The Revolution pin boxes didn't exist then, so not sure how that would change my mind.

In the end, if the distance between the cab and the hitch is less than half the width of the trailer, you risk crunching the cab. Some people are good at paying attention to that along with the 50 other things to watch while backing up. I just didn't want to worry about that. I'd probably forget on a dark rainy night. My Pullrite does it for me without having to think about it.
