North Georgia Weather

What a week to be camping. I sure am glad we are in a heavy 5th wheeler. We are at Mountain View Resort in Blairsville, GA right now and the weather has been horrible. Over 4 inches of rain yesterday and today! The straight line winds have reached 50 mph and our 5th wheeler has been rocking. The wife is ready to pack up and go home! Not a good time to be traveling so we are going to sit tight. I just hope the oak tree next to us stays put. The leaves are going everywhere. One thing we cannot control is mother nature. One thing we are sure of, this unit does not leak. The rain has been going sideways most of the time and it is a quartering wind from the right front of the unit. I think that is helping! Not at a 90 degree right angle anyway. Supposed to start clearing up this evening. I hope we last that long. Some people left their awnings out at a lower angle protecting stuff from the elements while they are away. Wrong! Lots of awning damage around here.
Stay safe everyone!

We were at Mountain View about 2 months ago. I wouldn't quite call it a "Resort" though. We had to have the girl living at the Resort er ah motel move her car twice so we could get in and out between the two buildings. lol We stayed in spot #10. Took the excursion train on a Sunday. Can' say I recommend that more than once. Best thing we did besides visiting some water falls is go to Jasper and eat Mexican twice at Pueblos. Great food and margaritas!

Lots of flooding in the area. The main road to Blairsville from the airport into town was flooded and blocked off most of the afternoon. It is the Blueridge Hwy. Several of the permanent cabins next to the creek in mountain View resort had water surrounding them and the road was impassable in the campground. We talked to a permanent resident right behind us on the next lot and she said the water was waist high on her lot this past April during some heavy storms. Remind me not to buy a lot here! Lol. Got some pictures on my cell phone but have to figure out how to get them to my tablet to upload.

pictures Mountain View Resort Blairsville

Pictures taken from Mountain View Resort across the street from the Blairsville Airport on the Blue Ridge Hwy. The water was almost over the road here but has been gradually receding. Several of the roads in the resort are impassable this evening. Water levels are starting to go down so as long as we don't get any more rain, we should be ok.

Hope the rain stops and you can get out of there....

Good luck!

Not sure what Mountain View you were at but maybe it is not the same place. There is not a motel on the premises. This is the Mountain View Resort right across from the Blairsville, GA airport. There are a lot of very expensive motor homes here and this one little 5th wheeler. Sort of feel out of place! Lol
The sun is shining to blue skies this morning and the temperature was a nice 49. Let the fun begin! Water is almost back down to normal as long as no more rain dumps on us. We will be going home Friday.
Safe week to all.

We drove through River Bend CG checking it out for our club for next year. Unfortunately, they are already booked for the month of October next year. It is a time when just about all campgrounds up here are booked a year in advance. Hopefully the weather gets better for you. Woke up to rain again this morning. We are going to an antique mall and then to Jim's BBG just outside Blairsville. If you like BBQ, this would be worth the drive. It was rated top ten in the nation last year. One more day and we are headed home in the morning. Safe travels to all!

Opps, my mistake. We were at the Mountain View Resort in Blue Ridge which is just down the road a few. We were actually in Blairsville two weeks ago at a different campground. lol

Hiawassee GA

We just spent 4 months (June/Oct 4th) at Bald Mountain Resort in Hiawassee GA this year and enjoyed it. We will be back again July/September in 2015 after a trip up to Chicago to visit relatives and a couple weeks at 2 Rivers Campground in Nashville area.

Two years ago we got to GA earlier than out scheduled stay at River Bend (but opted out because of a bait and switch technique that they tried using on us), so we stayed at Mountain View across from the airport for a week. The first thing I noticed was that they had the lower siding off of a cabin and there was mud from a flood up to the bottom of the trailer. The second thing we noticed was that there was mud in the pool. As it turns out we just missed a major rain storm that had the same effect as the pictures in the other post. Probably like the one earlier this week.

As mentioned above, we had a reservation to stay at River Bend campground, our reservation was to camp on one of their river sites so our dog could do his daily playing in the water. Well, when we were at Mountain View, the DW decided to verify our reservation.. They tried to tell her that we did not request a river front site. DW gave her the site # and the person that approved it and the date. My wife confronted her on it and the person just hung up on DW. We have talked to a lot of people that encountered the same types of issues with that CC. One person said that the Wi-Fi was not even usable at their site, and the CC posted a sign on the door that said that the Wi-Fi is a FREE service and don't complain to us about it. Wait a minute, how do they pay for Wi-Fi? Is it not figured in each of our daily/weekly/monthly/seasonal bills? Needless to say we did not stay there, or ever will. We found Bald Mountain Resort and really enjoy it there, and it is a great base station for short trips around there.

Watching the weather channel this week, I believe that the entire North GA mountain area is flooded this week.

Don

Sorry you had a bad experience at River Bend. We have stayed here twice and had the complete opposite experience. We made our reservations almost a year ago and they called us a month ago to confirm the site #.

Well, needless to say, we left beautiful weather in Blairsville. Never saw the sun the whole ten days we were in N. Georgia. Had a beautiful day for driving home. I talked to some folks that came down from Kentucky and they said they had not seen the sun the whole time they were up there either. I guess it was a good thing as that front kept the hurricane from coming ashore on the east coast. Should not complain too much I guess. Mountain View resort across from the Blairsville airport has been sold and is putting in another 100 sites. I wonder if the new owners know there is a flood problem there. OH well, problems of ownership. I don't think I want to buy a lot in there however.
Happy Camping to all.

We arrived in Hiawassee last Wed. Thursday it cleared and since has been chamber of commerce weather. We rode over to Blairsville and looked over mountain view CG. Nice view and location but IMO not for us.
