Hmmm..a 15-20' difference. You're probably 1200 lbs or so heavier.
I find it odd you like 7.5.
Do you feel the rig pulling a little bit on medium braking?
I should, at least, be in your distance range if not 15' shorter then you.
More ammo for the dealer.
Thanks.

That's right...I kept thinking you had the 377 too. At 7.5, I'm just starting to feel a slight tug when I break. The more I tow with it, I may end up backing down to 7.

I haven't got an answer yet. Now my service guy left for Myrtle Beach.
So I have to deal with another one who isn't quiet as familiar with what's going on because she only catches bits and pieces of conversations.
Uggg.

I just got back from a trip and did the test with my controller set to 10. I did 2 tests and they were not good[emoji35]
I could instantly feel the brakes slowing down the rig, but I could not come to a complete stop. I kept going about 2-3 mph. However, I did have some sketchy moments on I-10 where traffic was backed up and had to do some really hard braking and it stopped just fine. I'm really confused now. I thought my brakes were good to go but maybe my truck is doing more stopping than I thought.

That doesn't sound good.
I can easily step on the pedal and drive with my controller squeezed.
I think it's your truck doing most of the stopping. Especially if you're in tow/haul.
I tow other trailers, not this heavy though. I can feel them slowing down on hard braking. NorthPoint, I feel it pushing me.
Feel free to beat me taking the drums off Tom. Have a look in there, maybe something isn't working like it should with the "forward self adjusting" system.

North Point Braking Issue
I wasn't in tow/haul. In fact I only use it when going to the mountains. I don't feel it pushing me like before I repaired the wire. I'm going to check the adjusters in the morning. I'm also going to pull my drums off and check the shoes for any contamination. Like I said, I did a couple of emergency stops and I didn't feel like the trailer was pushing me.
Hell, I may be ordering those disc brakes by the end of the day

Does the 2014 have the low, med, high settings?
When would the low setting ever be needed?

No. Mine has electric and electric over hydraulic settings only. I think the 2017s may have the high/med/low setting

I don't think it is anyone's truck....
I also pull other trailers and they stop like they are supposed to.
It's something with the Jayco brakes.......

North Point Braking Issue
Just checked all my connections (again), checked the adjusters, and looked at the shoes.
Nothing "seems" out of order. I'm not smart enough to do a good diagnosis but I think either the magnets aren't strong enough or they aren't getting enough power to activate as forcefully as possible. The 20 mph test results aside, my brakes seem to be working as my emergency stops this past trip would indicate. I'm going to just leave well enough alone and save my money for the disc brake kit.

Has anyone checked into different brake shoes? I know Dexter offers standard lining and aggressive lining brake shoes. I don't know if Lippert offers this or not. But the Dexter shoes would fit the lippert. Might be an easy inexpensive fix by using the Dexter aggressive lining shoes or complete brake assembly. Normally the complete brake assembly is about the same price as shoes.

My 387RDFS is having the same problems. I haven't done a lot of stop-n-go criving, but when it comes home from some warranty issues, we are going to start working the trailer brakes a bit to see if I can improve their performance!

To add to my post from Feb ‘17. As the year went on the brakes seemed weaker. By December was very noticeable. Took it in for warranty work and yes they were contaminated. Getting new brake assemblies all the way around. We will see how they do when we get it back.

Bad Northpoint Brakes
We were having the same problem on our 387RDFS-not much trailer assist when stopping with controls set to 10. Last big trip, I would drive (freeway speeds) in use the manual controller 6-7 times in a row. After another 10 miles, 6-7 more manual brakes. After about 800 miles, we are now using the brake controller set to 7.5 and the trailer is pulling its fair share of the braking duties. I would have hated to be the guy that ferried this beast to El Paso from Indiana!

Engine brake
Technically, on the Cummins, it is an exhaust brake, but yes. It is fabulous with the bigger rig!
