Outrageous Overcharge - Attempt

I recently had a warranty replacement of a brake hub on my Designer (details in another thread). When putting the tire/wheel back on one of the lug nuts wouldn't tighten up. Looking at the threads it seems this one nut was apparently over torqued at the factory when my 5'er was built. No problem, lug nuts are cheap right?

I am 250 miles from my selling dealer so I stopped by a local auto parts store with the old nut, but they didn't have one like it. They had one that would fit fine, but looked different from the outside. I obviously would like all 8 of them to look the same.

Thinking this might be a model that was used mostly on RV's I stopped at a local RV dealer. Of course they didn't have this one nut, but would be happy to order it and have it for me in a few days. The price: $12.50 plus shipping costs. $12.50 for one lug nut. It was all I could do to remain professional as I told them I would have to look elsewhere.

I sent an email to my selling dealer and they put one in the mail the same day - no charge.

I certainly understand the local dealer would need to make a profit since they didn't sell me the 5'er, but $12.50 plus freight? Obviously I won't be going to this local dealer again for anything.

Yeah, $12.50 seems steep for one lug nut...., even if it was metric and chrome!

Wow I am glad they are not my local dealer. I once looked at getting a new filter for my AC unit. We were on vacation and looking around at a dealer near the campground. They wanted $15.00 for a simple foam filter that you cut to size. The same filter (same brand/plastic packaging) was sold at Wal-Mart for a little over $1.00.

They probably have two tier pricing - tourists like me or locals.

The locals can have them I assure you.
