PD mini fridge lock?

Hello,
Our 2017 Eagle 293RKDS has a PD mini fridge that's accessed from outside. It doesn't have a latch or lock. We keep soda cans and bottles water in it. They shift and cause the door to open and then the door is held open. So we need to add some kind of latch to the door. Has anyone added a latch/lock? Does any of the outdoor kitchens with the mini fridge come from the factory with a latch?

Thanks,
Earl

Earl,

We had the same issue with our outdoor fridge in our 32. Solved it by doing two things: Camco fridge spring bars, and a child proof latch similar to what Fire Instructor posted.

It's a Safety 1st appliance lock in case the link doesn't work.
Fridge latch in black and gray

Camco fridge bar. I ordered both the single and double bars. We use a combo of them in our fridge depending on what is on what shelf and how it may be stacked. Water bottles are layed down and double stacked for example, they get a double bar. Camco fridge spring bars

I suggest to use at least the spring bars. Reason is we tried the latch only, and a lot of the drinks in the fridge still wanted to fall out once we opened the door. Latch held, but drinks still bounced around. Spring bars solved the jumbled drinks. May be able to not use the latch now, but still due just to be safe.

Hope this helps!

The Camco spring bars work great for the inside fridge, as well!

A bungee cord will help keep it closed while traveling. We generally don't put anything in our outdoor kitchen while traveling, since ours only cools on AC power. If we want cold drinks upon arrival, we put them in the inside fridge on propane, otherwise we just load the outdoor fridge and turn on the power upon arrival.

We keep drinks in both the mini and the RV fridge. The mini does well on the road when the door isn't open. Lol We only keep drinks in the mini so the fluctuations in temp while on the road won't harm them.

The fridge spring bars sound like a good idea. I thought about them but never used them. I didn't think they'd go small enough to fit the mini fridge. I will have to check

I also found you can't adjust the shelves because the fridge door doesn't open far enough to get them out. Apparently they didn't have their top engineer on that build. So to adjust the shelves I need to remove the screws holding the fridge to the trailer and pull the fridge out.

I have the following lock strap on the exact same fridge:

I mounted the latch/lock part on the front for easier access.

Of course I had a left over from some indoor child proofing

Earl,

The spring bars just fit inside our outdoor fridge. With maybe one turn to keep them extra snug.

Walmart also carries both the single and double spring bars last I knew, at least our local one does (did).

We have had the Safety 1st latch since shortly after buying our 32 in July of '15. Works great!!!

The camco fridge bars are in two sizes, 16 to 28 or 19 to 34. My fridge is only 14" wide. So there go that idea!

I bought the fridge bars, too long even collapsed for my mini fridge. Any other suggestions to keep the cans and bottles on the shelves?

I do plan to secure the door but would like to keep the stuff from falling out when opening the door.

Thanks,
Earl
