Thanks. Need to have my dealer read this too so they know it's not just an isolated problem with mine.

Wow...even with the notifications to the NHTSA, they put it back on the RV owner! Apparently "educating" us is the answer??

I'd say the author of the article needs to rewrite his article. He makes it sound it's limited to Disc brakes. Not very hard to see a seal problem with disc brakes just by crawling under the unit. Yep, another thing for the to do list.

Yours definitely isn't an isolated problem. It would be wise for everyone with Lippert axles to check your axle seals and brakes if your trailer was built in the past 3 or 4 years.

I kept saying Lippert installs crap seals and bearings. Get those out of there ASAP! I'm sure they probably use crappy grease too.

Hmm... I was noticing the goo on the wheel after it has been sitting around this winter. Gonna have to add this to my to-do list.

Footnote - Not sure what axle I have yet.

Haven't had the time to remove my drums yet, but after reading this, I guess I'm going to have to look into it as well! I haven't noticed grease on the wheels yet, but do have poor braking performance like most of you here... What a shame that Jayco didn't use Dexters...

Does anybody have sources and part numbers for improved bearings and seals? Until I can save up for the disk brakes, I may need a temp fix with a quality set of Timkens!

I'll take mine off and get some part numbers to cross reference after our trip this weekend. If anyone else already has that info, it would be great!

Here's a picture of my seals. You can see the part number on it. Don't have bearings number yet.

Here's a cross reference to some seals on etrailer.

https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Bea...e/9103309.html

And possibly the whole kit?
https://www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Bea...e/BK3-100.html

Don't know if the bearings are any better than jayco OEM or not. But you could use it to cross reference a timken bearing

You are going to have to change races also if you change bearings and seals.

Yup bearings and race the same time and they should come as a match set. With that said I have bought new disc brakes and drum for my triaxle boat trailer and races were installed but got a bag of bearings.
So much for a machine match set but being the same brand never have I had a bearing issue just seal issues.
I had access to a borescope from work and I would pull the rubber plugs on drum brake backing plates to insert scope and check seals. Center lube hubs with good bearings should last forever.

They are Milestar Patagonia A/Ts . Out camper came with the "extreme" package which as 15" ATs and a 5" lift. Put 6k miles on them last year and they treated us well.
