Question for those using Andersen

Would it be ok if I didn't attach the release cable, and just lay it in the bed of my truck? The reason I ask this, is because the only place to attach it to my 5th wheel puts it dangerously close to hitting my bed rails on left hand turns. I really don't want to put new screw holes into my camper if I can avoid it.

I can't think of anything it would hurt, just makes it easier to have it mounted. I may have the same problem, I just put bigger tires on my TV and am looking into lifting the 377 2"s to give me some clearance.

I used an existing screw. I've also seen them attached to the pin box.

Mine is attached to the pin box. I definitely wouldn't just lay it in the bed.

If the cable gets bent, you'll be in a world of hurt trying to get it to release or latch. Mine is located under the nose, but wish I had mounted it on the pinbox like others have done.

I took my cable and swung it around the front side of the pin box, then attached it with a couple zip ties to the back of the pin box so the pull handle is facing towards the camper. This way it's up out of the way and it's fixed to the pin box so it's not hanging.
