Questions for seasoned travelers

I have a few question for seasoned travelers, what do you carry in case you have a flat? Coke bottle style jack, floor jack, or ramp to drive one wheels up on to lift the other wheel off the ground? Also does anyone carry a small Honda generator like the 2000I or 3000I series to use if you pull over for a rest and need to turn on the A/C. Will a 2000I run just a 15000 BTU A/C or 13500? Not using the generator to run anything else but one A/C, what are your experiences?? Thanks in advance for all that reply.

I pack a Trailer-Aid ramp and a bottle jack. Unfortunately, I've changed many tires while on the road. The Trailer-Aid is my first choice. I used it to change a tire 10 days ago.

On the generator....it is doubtful you will get the generator to start up the ac on a 2000.

I have a 2200 (2400 surge) and I have been successful in getting mine to start using this procedure:

- turn off all breakers except the main and ac
- turn the fan on and let it start for a few seconds
- flip the ac to on and let the compressor start

Everything else I need runs off 12 volt so I am good. Not a very elegant solution, but it works.

I have a built in Onan 5500 so my 120v air compressor works great as does my a/c to cool off after and during changing a flat. I have a 3 ton floor jack that lives in my 5'er all the time.

I carry a 6 ton bottle jack. Also, I've built a ramp out of Lynx levelers and driven the good tire up onto the ramp. I also carry a cheap slow to work battery air pump that has helped us out of a jam one time we got two flats at the same time, as it pumped enough air into one of the tires to let us limp to a tire shop.

I've heard it said, but have no experience myself, that a 2000i might run a 13,500 BTU A/C, but not a 15,000 BTU. Altitude (the higher the less likely) is a factor in whether or not a 13,500 will start - it sounds like it's a really iffy possibility.

I can change a tire in less than 15 minutes.

I travel to remote places. Often, outside cell coverage.

One time I had two flats within 20 miles. I had no choice but to call my roadside service. The time from call to back on the road was 4 hours.

Had Good Sams. Needed a tow on our car, the tranny cable broke. They would only tow the car to a tire shop that did NOT work on transmissions. That was the 1 and only time I called Good Sams.

My 11 years of experience with Good Sam does not verify your experience.

Thanks you for sharing your experiences. Picking up my Eagle 321 RLTS Friday, so I wanted to hear what the veterans had to say. This will be my first camper but I have pulled my parents 320 RLDS in the past so I have a little experience with some things.

edatlanta-
How does your truck do with the Companion hitch and short bed while pulling the 351 RLTS? I have a 2007 Sierra Classic 2500HD CCSB 4X4 with Duramax and Companion hitch and will picking up my 321 RLTS Friday.

My only question is how many cold ones waiting that 4 hrs.

The scissor jack in the TV will work just fine on the frame of the trailer - as proven...BUT my tire-iron won't. Had to buy one that would fit the trailer's nuts. BCAA RV (AAA, Canadian style) is a great insurance policy "just-in-case"... I also ensure there's ALWAYS cold beer in the fridge, "just-in-case"!!

Your RV will probably come with 1 year roadside assistance... mine did right from Jayco...

I carry a Trailer Aid ramp as first choice, 10 ton bottle jack and chocks as second, and Good Sam Roadside Assistance as third choice. I can almost always change a tire with the Trailer Aid much faster than GS can get someone there, and the GSRA is only useful if you are not in a cell phone dead area, or if the temp and humidity are both in the high 90's. Cold lemonade and a TA are my best solutions.

Trailer Aid, 12 ton bottle jack, 12V compressor, spare tire and a GSRA card. Knock on wood, I haven't had to test this yet but I check cold air pressure and torque lug nuts at each CG along the way. Tires are also balanced, which I think helps the ride too.

I forgot to mention that we also carry an air tank in the pickup box with 120lbs in it, instead of a compressor. Either one works fine - just a personal choice.
