Raccoon in front storage on Pinnacle RLTS

Ok, went to open up the 5th wheel today… to get it ready to go camping for the first outing of the season this coming weekend. Opened front storage compartment…first thing saw was insulation all over the place, thought maybe mice had gotten in over the winter.

Then, something moved! A mother raccoon and her baby were in there… built a nest out of the insulation from the ceiling of the compartment.

Got them out… started the clean up… and, the search for how a good sized raccoon got in there to set up house. Discovery: The huge hole under the propane tanks… not screened… easily gave her access to the top of the compartment. She broke through the thin wallboard… and, had a home for the winter.

Anyone experienced this before? Suggestions? I understand why there needs to be ventilation, open space under the propane tanks… but unscreened access to the RV by raccoon sized animals? Not!

Jayco needs to fix this!

I had the same issue. I live in the country and felt that this opening was just to inviting for all sorts of critters both wild and domestic. So, I made a wood framed screen panel, removed the lp tanks and base run the lp hose through the panel. The opening for the hose is the weak point, but its allot better that it was. Good luck with the cleanup and repairs.

thats funny cause we found one and about 6 babies in a brand new 23.5 ht, went up through the hole where the propane tanks are and hung out where the 30 amp cord is stored, she was pissed when we pulled her out

I checked the LP compartment on my Pinnacle, and yes, that is quite an opening. Time to get some hardware cloth and build a barricade. Hopefully Jayco will address this issue on upcoming models.

Same for my 2015 model. Jayco hasn't fixed it yet.
