Ram 2500 diesel, trailer brake settings

Also, a correction on my post about the brakes: My gain is set to 5.0. 5.5 is a little strong, 4.5 is a little weak, 5.0 is just right most of the time.

My Eagle Trailer is 9500 Lbs , Brake set on Heavy Electric, Gain on 5.5

I have a '14 DRW, pulling a Seismic 4112 (17klbs typical loading) and I'm running it at 7.5. I have the recall and need to install the upgrade for UConnect still, not sure if this will affect the setting at all.

2017 Eagle HT 28.5rsts. 2017 ram 2500 Diesel. I set the integrated trailer brake controller to heavy electric and the gain to 10. The integrated trailer brake can not even stop the vehicle at an idle. I can barely feel the brakes grab. Very disappointed.

Something is definitely wrong there. Not getting enough juice to the electric brakes. I would get back to the dealer quickly. I have mine on heavy electric around 6 and it slows the 11,000 pounds down real quickly if I apply hard.

Have the trailer brakes been broken in? Any grease contamination on the trailer brakes? All four magnets reading the correct ohms? The brakes adjusted correctly? Any wiring issues, broken, corroded or undersized?

Any TSB's covering your truck related to the factory controller?

At that setting, you should be leaving black skid marks at every intersection.

You definitely have a problem here, whether it's with the truck's integrated brake controller (which has a known history - refer to link on page 2 of this thread), or at the plug or with the trailer's brakes themselves.

So the ram forum is saying that the anti lock brake are keeping the trailer brakes from operating properly? Oh on a side note I have a Pullright sliding hitch and it pulled the trailers brake away cable while backing in then I pulled out and drove it around the block with the brake away cable disconnected. My truck didn't even notice. I would have thought that would lock the brakes or the trailers brakes would be smoking. This was on light electric but I would think the trailer should have stopped. It drove like nothing was wrong except a light on the dash.

The breakaway has nothing to do with the truck. It takes full battery power from the trailer batteries and puts it to the axles. If the wheels are locked with the break away pulled, you have issues with the trailer.

Hitch to the trailer as normal. Leave the 7-way unplugged. Pull the break away and try to move the trailer. It should have locked wheels or at least be extremely hard to pull. If that doesn't happen, the issue is the trailer. Be sure the break away switch has 12v power to it and out when pulled.

On my '16 Ram 3500, I have the brakes set to Heavy and 6.5 for about 13,500 lbs. The exhaust brake does the bulk of the work.
