Ram 2500 diesel, trailer brake settings
Does anyone have a 2014 / 2015 ram 2500, if so what is the weight of your trailer and what do you have your trailer brake settings at? Are you using light electric or heavy electric settings?
Thanks

I've got a 2015 Ram pulling a 32BHDS around 9000 lbs. I have the setting on heavy. Not sure if that's correct as I haven't found any info in the owners manual.

Honestly I can't say I've even looked at the gain number. I just set it by feel. If your brakes are running hot then I'd say you need to turn it down some.

I have an 8500 lbs trailer. Set on Heavy Electric and gain is about 8. I tend to use the exhaust brake though... try not to use mechanical brakes if I can avoid it.

I love the exhaust break. Set on heavy and on level 8, wow. I think my trailer brakes would catch on fire. I have backed the brakes down to 6 (from 7) and it seems to be breaking better. They were very hot before. Wonder if I should try 5. I am loaded at about 9400 lbs.

the exhaust brake is fantastic! I'm setup as Heavy Electric and the gain at 4.5. Weight is about 8000 lbs

I'm learning something new all the time. I have the 2015 Ram 2500 pulling an 11,000 pound 5th wheeler. My gain is set on 6 and does very well. Brakes do not run hot but then I'm using exhaust brake also, which is wonderful. My questions is where are you setting the "heavy" part. I have not seen that setting. I need to be looking harder I guess. Thanks for your input.

I (think) it's in the radio settings for all models. Mine is a Tradesman and that's where it is. Look for 'settings' in the on screen menu on your radio.

I too have the Tradesman and the setting is in the Setup Menu of the in-dash display, not the radio. IIRC there are three different trailer menus:
1. Selecting which trailer your pulling (T1 - T4)
2. Brake settings for each trailer
3. Ability to name the trailer (Travel, Fifth Wheel, Boat, etc.)

I have the limited with diesel, it's in the settings under towing. Has two settings for the type of trailer.

i was looking up integrated trailer brake control issues on the cummins forum and it seems some people are having issues with the trailer brake output. Not sure if any of you guys are finding a problem but i know i had to turn mine up a lot higher with the new truck as opposed to the old truck. link below.

Well I think mine works fine (like the one in my Denali slightly better), but as you mentioned I think each truck is different. Which is slightly weird, who knows.
When I get back from Europe I will try it on setting 5.5 and see if it does better. I am thinking mine is way to powerfully and going from a conventional trailer to a fifth wheel, it was hard to tell the feel.
But on level 8, mine would be smoking, that's for sure.

Mine appears to be working okay too - so far. Turned it up to 5.5 on the way home last night to see if I noticed a difference, and I certainly did - locked the TT tires up pretty quickly. Needless to say, the gain is back to 4.0

Towing around 12k lbs with a 2012 ram 3500 srw. Usually keep the gain on 5. More than that I can feel the trailer pulling a lot when I hit the brakes.

2015 RAM 2500 with Hemi 6.4, but I'm betting the integrated brake controller is similar. I set mine up using "light electric" at the beginning per the weights in the manual (my trailer is around 8K loaded) and I had the gain way up over 8 and it still wasn't enough. So I switched to "heavy electric" and have the gain at 6.5 and it works much better. I probably could go down to 6.0, but I like it right where it is. I guess I'll try to measure the drum temps this weekend. I always measure the tire and hub temps when we stop but never gave the brake drums much thought.

2015 Ram 2500 diesel
Trailer weight ~8000 loaded
Trailer brake set to heavy
Gain set at 5
Came down the grade from Lake Crowley to Bishop southbound on highway 395 in Cali using the automatic engine brake with cruise control set at 62 and never once touched the brake pedal. For reference this is about a 6-7% grade, very straight and about 5-6 miles long. Electric brakes work great when not using the engine brake.

Well, I have the new Outdoorsman model and I will have to look in settings for all this. Have not seen anything at all where I can name the combo I am pulling. Will look further. Did just upgrade my U-Connect radio before I even got the re-call notice in the mail.

I haven't seen anything on this recall yet. Which UConnect system is it?

It is just about all Chrysler products with the U-Connect radio system. Should be able to go online with your vin number and check for re-calls. I know the 2015 Diesels are affected so the Hemi's are probably also. Was about a 30 minute fix by downloading an upgrade. You can go to settings and see which version of software you have. For 2015 models, if your version of radio software is 15.17.5 or higher, you do not need to upgrade. If your version is lower than that, you need to upgrade. My local dealer did not have a fix right after this came out but I went online to Ram and downloaded the fix.
