Rear Cargo Tray for Fiver

I'm thinking of buying the cargo tray in the link below, or something similar to haul my 2 Honda 2000i generators that I travel with a couple of times a year. I have the factory receiver hitch on the back of fiver and will be no where near the weight limit of that.

Do any of you do something similar? Thoughts or concerns are welcome please.

Mine also is where it can be used for a bike rack

I have something similar I use on the truck when need be. It is probably solid, but it gets pretty good movement even on the truck - I'm constantly scared its going to shake things loose and I'm gonna lose them. The amount of travel on the back of a 5er would make me not want to try it there, especially with nice Honda gennies. I've seen too many bikes fall off racks on the back of 5ers to take that risk I think.

I agree with the movement. I was thinking of trying to come up with a way to stabilize each end as well to limit as much movement as possible.

The 2" receiver jayco puts on the back is nice, but I really wish they put the folding cargo tray on there instead like the Cougars use. My parents have a Cougar that is 5-6 years old and has one that slides under the rear of the camper. Either one would be nice to have from the factory.

A friend has a cargo tray on the back of his SOB 5er and used a U-bolt across the receiver and tray to help prevent movement. I don't know how much of a difference it made, and he doesn't carry anything anywhere near as valuable as a generator back there, but everything he had back there made it from MN to IN with no problem.

They sell this too, which looks similar but a little higher.

I've got a 2 week stint in Myrtle Beach coming up which is about a 1300 mile round trip. Guess I could always put 100# of taters back there and test the waters, lol....

Haven't had any problems......it's better than using a bike rack where the the bike tires are hanging in the air.
I leave it on all the time.

We use a "Hitch Haul" except when we are pulling our trailer behind us - great for Gas Cans and anything you don't want in a storage compartment or inside the coach.

You can substitute just about any brand and model... We love em!

.

I agree. On a long 5'er there is a lot of movement back that far behind the wheels. I am scared to even follow behind one with "stuff" on the back and watching how the stuff moves an shakes. I don't want anything coming through my windshield so I pass or slow down quickly. I will not travel close behind one and I definitely don't have that type of mound on my 5'er. My 5'er came with a bike rack which I never even opened and sold it on ebay.

I use one similar to this it keeps things from wobbling...

It helps with the hitch rattle when I haul the boat trailer empty too...

👍 I went ahead and ordered the one I posted about in a few responses above. Gonna put some things on it for our beach trip next week and see how it does! If I feel ok with it, I'll load the Gennies on it for our September and October Nascar trips.
