Rear hub hot on rear tire

i have an issue with one of the rear wheel hubs getting really hot. i have a08 jayco rtls 35 5th wheel with dual axels, i removed the brake drum hub assembly and bearing inspected for wear or anything abnormal and back the brake shoes off enough so there wasnt any drag on the drum as it spun. does anyone know or have had a problem like this before, i only have about 12,000 miles on the trailer. thanks Matt

The bearing could have been too tight, the bearings could have insufficient grease or God forbid you have an axle out of alignment- In any event, I would repack all 4 bearing assemblies as part of regular maintenance- JMHO- DD

I had a similar problem on my trailer. Both right side hubs would be very hot. They found that the brakes were activating too soon and braking harder on the right than the left. In fact I noticed that often one wheel would lock up durning slow manuevering and light braking.They replaced the magnets and then the whole backing plates, no better. Finally found the brake drums were machined wrong, the machined hub surfaces were not centered with the brake drum machined surfaces. They replaced the drums and all works perfect now, no hot hubs/drums.

"How" did you find the drums were wrong? Just curious for some future time. thanks
