Dale, speaking of CO detectors... Did you hear about the carbon monoxide scare at the Forest River plant?
Why wouldn't all the CO detectors in the trailers be going off!

klassic, I did hear about it! Here is what I understand about the issue. You need to know that as the units are going down the production line, each one is plugged into 110 power. That lights up every unit. Everything electrical is turned on as it goes down the line, including the converter. At the end of the day, in this case, for the weekend, every extension cord is pulled from every unit for obvious reasons.

On Monday morning when the workers came in, they started plugging in the extension cords and CO2 detectors started going off inside the units but, at first, they didn't completely understand why. However, it did not take long for them to figure out!!

The only thing so far for ours is the ice maker. Makes very tiny cubes. I watched the water flow and it is just a trickle. Checked flow to the fridge and it is fine. Must be the fridge. Any one had pull a fridge out enough to get to the water solenoid?

Hello All,

Fantastic info shared by all. We will definitely be installing a CO in bedroom, if not in front and rear of our FBTS as well. Better to be safe than Sorry.
Rock
Would you mind sharing (perhaps via email) the spots you sealed up and use steel wool to keep out rodents? We are still so new to RVin' and learning so much through this thread and didn't even think about looking at undercarriage for rodent access.
Currently, our unit is in storage but I would think there is still possibility of rodents looking for a place to bed when the AZ nights get near freezing...
I would also like to re-engineer the space behind the basement wall... it appears there is a lot of space that could be more effectively used. Also a great place to put rodent traps etc..

Thanks again everyone for sharing your experiences. We are really anxious to get back out on another trip....

Hello Tim&Paula,

Did you check the valve behind the drawer under the oven? If the fridge is getting good pressure, it's probably fine...

We took a tour of the factory prior to picking up our FBTS and the furniture and appliances are all installed in the slides BEFORE the slideouts are even installed.
Now thinking about it, not sure how the fridge would come for repair or replacement...
Maybe the Island would need to removed to give access to pull out fridge even with the slide out extended.

Our Ice cubes are small too and the Ice tray never really gets too full, but we've always seemed to have ice.. When I changed the freezer temp to -5 it appears to work much better...

AZ-FBTS, For several years, in our old unit and now in the new, I have put moth balls and drier sheets thru out the unit. 2 years ago, I did have a mouse but, caught his furry little butt in the basement!! Might not make sense but, seems to work pretty decent for me.

Excellent Dalengail,

Sounds like an easy, clean, precautionary measure to me... Thank you!

And, it helps the unit smell better, too! You don't need a lot of mothballs. Couple in the basement and a couple in 2 or 3 places close to the floor from the sofa up to the front closet.

Try unplugging the fridge for a few minutes and plug it back in. Mine stopped making ice awhile back and the freezer got extremely cold on its own. Samsung sent a tech out under warranty. He first thought it was going to be a bad heater on the supply line which would have allowed the water line in the freezer to freeze. After realizing that wasn't the problem he said Samsung had sent out a service tip and unplugging it reset it and it's been working fine since. May not fix your issue but it's worth a try.

After running our heat pump some this weekend, I noticed water dripping from the roof as if the A/C was running. After checking into it, I found the coil on the A/C had ice on it and the ice was melting. Is this normal or has anyone else experienced this. This is our first heat pump, and it was working fine the whole time.

Thanks

Cut and paste....

Heat pumps will naturally ice-up in the winter but will periodically go into a defrost cycle to de-ice the coils. This keeps the unit running efficiently. If the coils are blocked by ice, proper heat transfer between the refrigerant and the outside air cannot occur.

Your roof heat pump is like my home heat pump. It just goes in reverse when u ask for heat. That is why when my house ac temp goes below about 35 it goes to heat strips and the outside unit does not run. It is just a reverse cycle ac. So water dripping is the. Same as ac in summer

That is not the way my home heat pumps work (Trane). They continue to run, no matter how cold it gets outside. The electric strip heat is turned on by the thermostat when the temperature falls more than 2 degrees below the set point. When the temperature is brought back up to within 1 degree of the set point, the strip heat is turned off. The 'defrost' cycle is controlled by a sensor on the outdoor coil which detects any ice buildup. The frequency of going into defrost varies by the outside humidity, so defrosts occur more often at around 35 degrees than they do below freezing (if no precipitation). When the unit is defrosting, you will see it dripping as it melts the ice. The heat pumps do an amazing job of extracting heat even when the outside temperature is below freezing. The one condition I find where they don't work well is when it is raining at a temperature around 34 - 35 degrees. The coils are then below freezing, and that rain freezes on the compressor coils rapidly.

Well that depends on ur thermostat. Mine will turn off the outside unit at a preset temp. And than the heat strip turns on. That is why a heat pump thermostat has cold , heat and emergency heat. It just reveries itself. That is a fact and how they work it all depends on ur unit and Tstat. That is heating AC&R 101
