Removing running light

Going to install a rear camera. I understand you pull the power from the middle running light on the top rear of the 5th wheel. Has anyone removed one of these. They appear to just pull out, however I tried and it did not come out easily. Its the small round lights in the rubber boot. Thanks, Tom

The light comes out of the rubber boot. Don't try to take the boot out first!..don't ask me how I know that part

The light is just pushed into the boot, the boot is like a grommet
I think I got it a little wedging with a screwdriver then grabbed it with pliers.

Thanks. Ill give it a try. I was guessing the rubber grommet came out, but I didn't want to force it. Glad now I didn't.

I guess you are just removing the safety light to gain access to 12V power leads...

I would think these lights are mounted to some DOT standard safety lights requirements and are required.

I would not permanently remove any DOT safety light.

Also keep in mind the wiring you are gaining access to may only be HOT when you have your running lights 'ON'... i.e. If this is the case your rear camera will only work when you have your running lights 'ON'. I don't turn on my running lights until the early evening and after dark...

Having never done this before I guess it is just as easy to turn on the running lights (Day or Night) when you want to use the rear Camera???

My thinking concept for a Rear Camera would be very useful to see what is behind your when traveling on the Interstate and wanting to change lanes etc and of course to get a good look at what's behind you for backing into a camping spot...

I have read that you really want to have your camera as high as you can get it on the rear of your RV and have it pointed down to reduce flair-up from vehicle lights behind you when using at night.

My truck rear mounted camera is mounted in the tail gate and is almost useless being used at night because of flair-up from lights. It only comes ON when I am in reverse.
