Replacement Roof

Hello again,

I have heard of a material other than a EPDM rubber roof that is supposed to be longer lasting. I saw an ad on Ebay about a trailer with this better roof and I E-mailed the person and told him I was not interested in what he was selling but wanted to know what it was he ( a dealer in the Eastern U.S.) had used.
He replied, told me, but I cannot for the life of me find the E-mail

Maybe the masses out there can help.

Is there something other than a EPDM rubber roof as a replacement?
Is it longer lasting than EPDM?
To hire it done (replace the roof) how does it compare in pricing?

I am not interested in the cost/benefit based on my 5th wheels value but rather good honest thoughts about re-roofing. I am not interested I replacing the trailer as I have maintained it very well since I have owned it.

I have a 1995 Jayco 3210RLRwhich is in excellent condition except the roof.

Also, I would be interested in a service facility within a reasonable driving distance that is honest and fair to do the job.

I am located about 35 miles North of Detroit Michigan.

Thanks!!!

Pete

In trailer life magazine there are a couple different advertisements on the roof you are talking about I believe. If I remember correctly they will come to you and complete the job. Now, I don't have a TR magazine around the house and I have the same memory problem as you :-) Anyway, that's where I have seen it. Good luck.

Before installing this product, see how much weight it will add to your rig.

A coworker last spring had a Rhino Linings RV roof put on his 2 year old 5th wheel (non Jayco). So far he absolutely loves it. Says he now never has any roof maintenance. I understand it is very similar to the truck bed liner. If I had to replace my roof, I would seriously consider it.

TPM rubber roof. You can also get liquid EDPM and put it on fairly thick for a reasonable price. I like the rino roof but it is crazy expensive.

IF I ever have to replace my rubber roof I would go with a spray in truck bed liner. I did my truck myself and could easily do my roof..

If I ever need a new roof, these spray on products will be given consideration.

Thanks to all for the input.
I watched the youtube on the Rhino roofing and it seem nice. But. I called Rhino and the guy there said it was great but there is nobody near me to do this. The nearest place is about 625 miles from me but it would still be possible as the dealer is only 50 miles from the in-laws place. Well, I called the dealer/applicator was told they and other dealers were having warranty issues and are no longer doing that type of roof.

I also asked about price comparison and neither Rhino or the dealer would even tell me how the price compared to having a new EPDM roof installed. I asked that because some wrote that they were "crazy expensive".

The bottom line is I was told locally I would expect to pay around $2500 for my 32 footer. And yes I know there are always cost over runs.

As they say, "it is what it is".

Thanks again,

Pete

A friend of mine with a 31 ft fifth wheel was quoted $1800 for the LineX version. Don't know of any warranty issues. A EPDM roof replacement price can vary from 2k - 5K. Kinda steep.

My unit is much smaller, only 18 feet. My local rv guy wants 1300 to do it. After doing some research using his quote of 400 for theEPDM I have decided to do it myself. Plenty of instruction online on how to do it. about 90 bucks a gallon. Both he and the company website state my rig needs 4 gallons. You basically just prep it and repair any leaks and then paint it on with a squeegee and roller. Its self leveling and it will set itself. I just can't pay a guy 1000 bucks to do What I can do.

I saw a camper this past winter at a park where I was hosting. He had a spray on roof done a couple of years previous. He said it hadn't been touched since even for any cleaning. It looked good, but a bit dirty. Who knows how long it will last. I still wonder about caulking around the edges and where roof mounted stuff sits.

Honestly the spray roof if the way to go. Excel fifth wheels even offered it as an option. I had gotten quotes from rvroof when we were full timing. Also had a forum friend get Forest River to pay for his since it was more economical than them doing a fiberglass roof replacement on a motorhome. He loves his still, and no maintenance.

New roof, no electric service

The roof was replaced by the dealer prior to purchasing our older Jayco Fifth Wheel Designer Series because of a leak. The dealer said everything worked..don't know how that was determined because when checking it out after taking possession, no lights inside or outside, very few recepticals worked. Found screws went through the wiring when it was "put back together;" as far as we see it, unit is unusable and dealer will do nothing. Many other problems as well!
