Residential fridge inverter's

I was monkeying around with my Jayco installed inverter and noticed it's not grounded from the side grounding lug.
I called Xantrex to see if it is an absolute requirement, and he told me its for protection incase something inside the inverter shorts out to the case and you touch the outside of the inverter.

For safety, he said, it is a requirement.
He found it hard to believe Jayco didn't hook up the ground.
Maybe mine was just forgotten at the factory. Anyone else not grounded?

Mine was wired backwards from the factory. I would highly recommend double checking the inverters!

I would be very careful about connecting the inverter's case ground unless it is run through an automatic or manual transfer switch, that isolates the inverter from all the 110VAC electrical connections. The shore power neutral is connected to ground but the stand alone inverters neutral is isolated from ground as designed.

Inverters, like those used in RV's have CGFI built into them (not sure about those cheap store bought ones made in China) and do not need a ground. The cases are double insulated so as to prevent shocks. They are designed for stand alone use, with no connections to the grid. So when you connect the RV to shore power (and you wired in a ground connection to the inverter) you would be altering the electrical layout and could cause some unexpected problems.

I do not have my inverter tied to ground and have no issues.

As the Xantrex tech said, it's only for if something inside the unit malfunctions and shorts out to the case. Then someone touches the case looking to see what the problem was.
It's the chassis ground lug on the side of the unit. As stated in the Xantrex installation manual it is to be grounded to the chassis.
After the Xantrex rep confirmed it was only a safety precaution, he couldn't understand why Jayco wouldn't have connected the inverter as per Xantrex instructions and put themselves, Jayco, in a liability position.

That's why I was wondering if mine just got missed or if they are just saving a couple bucks.
