It’ll be 5 years for me this Oct. Shortly after I retired I took on some contract work and the money was nice but I soon learned I was an employee again and it was affecting our travels. When the project ended I retired again and this time it stuck. Last month I got a call from a former co-worker who recently retired and started doing some contract work and he was saying, “I was talking with xxx and your name came up, would you be interested in . . ..?”
I was flattered to know he thought of me but I declined.
Lesson learned.
World big, life short.

Gone Camping, Congrats !!!! Now your real work begins. I retired July 2013 after 27 years in the Army. A little advice. When I got out, my first lesson was understanding the DW was not broke and I didn't have to fix her. She also instilled in me that SHE was not my project and go outside and find one. Well, I'm not good left alone with my own devices. I learned I cannot cut a 2x4 straight no matter what saw I buy, cannot square any thing correctly, and apparently, can't read a tape measure therefore; I went to work for the VA and will not contemplate my 2nd retirement until my wife says I can and have a better plan. I used to have power, control and purpose in my old job. Now, I go lay down by my dog dish until told otherwise. Hope you find this advice helpful and humorous. Start planning now. Happy Camping SKIDAWG

Old age comes with retirement. The physical body can only take so much. Does anyone feel that maybe a class A would have been more easier to use instead of the fifth wheeler?

I have hooked up a fifth wheel once. I have hooked up my car as a toad countless times because I moved RVs. With my setup I kept the tow bar in the trunk. So I still had to haul that heavy thing back and forth from the trunk to the front of the car. But I guess if I owned a class-a, it could be locked into the receiver hitch. That would sure make life a lot easier. So I guess in that sense it would be easier. And hooking up it's pretty easy also. I guess the biggest catch is that it is difficult to hook your car up at the campsite unless you have a pull through site.

Congratulations! I am hoping to retire end of summer/early fall this year. Once our new 5th wheel arrives we pack it up and sell the house.

Every now and again we re-visit the subject of "What If? Actually we bought a used class A between travel trailers and our first fifth wheel but it was to old to be a good long term investment. We did however find that we like the fifth wheels room and ease of setting up over the travel trailer and have had 3 since 2001. We still talk about it but it is getting less and less a serious discussion unless my health fails.
We recently changed trucks and went with a different type hitch. Today after 5 months we both agreed that we are doing much better with the new hitch when hooking up. That was a relief as it has been a learning experience.

Retired 3 years ago. First year felt guilty most of the time that I wasn't working. That has passed and I love every day of it.

Congratulations!
I put off full retirement to work part time (20 hours a week) as a consultant for the same company. My hours are very flexible, I can work from anywhere (NY to FL this past winter) and doing it this way gives me some time to think about what I want to do with the rest of my days. Of course there is no guarantee I'll stay healthy enough to continue the RV life.
All the best to you on this next stage of the journey.
