Roof Access

I just bought a 2006 Jayco Jayflight 27.5 5th Wheel. It does not have a ladder. I know we are supposed to maintain the roof, but I was reading in a manual I downloaded that says if the trailer is not equipped with a ladder from the factory, you should not walk on the roof. How can the roof be maintained if I can not walk up there. Has anyone heard of this?

Welcome to the forum. My Jayflight TT has no ladder but I walk on the roof to do maintenance. I would not think there would be a difference in the roofs of units not equipped with a ladder.

Thanks. I am an insurance damage appraiser, and I have walked on roofs of trailers without ladders, so I was confused when I read this, but it says the units without ladders are not built with the same inner structure. This just doesn't make any sense.

I have read posts where members had been told you could not add a ladder to some units that did not come equipped with one because the supports were not there to hold it. Perhaps that is what they were referring to. The roof itself should not be any different, but nothing surprise me anymore!

Congratulations on your new-to-you JayFlight and welcome to the JOF.

My guess it was something the legal department wanted on the manual: No ladder, so no way to safely access the roof.
You could ask Jayco. It seems likely that there is little difference in the roof, just the ladder and maybe ladder support in the walls and the roof.

You may want to call Jayco (as previously suggested) and give them your VIN. My 2012 didn't come with a rear ladder so I called Jayco and they gave me the back panel schematic, showing the blocking and I installed an aftermarket ladder. Your 5er may also have the blocking for the ladder.

That's weird. We have the same trailer and our has a ladder. I've been on the roof several times without issues.
