Roof Vent

Okay, so has anyone come up with a gadget to use for opening the roof vent in your 5th wheel? I'd rather not have to get out a step stool every time I open and close it.

I guess you can replace your manual operated roof vent with a remote controlled one. All roof vents are suppose to fit the 14-inch square hole...

This is one I found on google by searching for "remote controlled vent for RV"

MAXXAIR 00-04500K - MaxxAir Roof Top 12 Volt Fan/Vent With Remote 00-04500K

I'm sure there are different ones out on google to purchase.

I made one for my wife, who is height challenged (AKA short). Out of 3/4 plywood, I cut a small round circle, drilled it 4 times at equal intervals around the circle, and glued in 4 short 1/4 inch dowels to fit around the roof vent knob. Cut a length of 1/2 inch dowel (24 inches) and put a screw through the center of the circle into the 3/4 dowel. Last, drilled a cross hole in the other end of the 3/4 dowel and glued in a 4 inch length of dowel for a handle. Works great, DW loves it, and it cost less than $1 and 30 minutes of time.

That's what I'm talking about, homemade and cheap. I think I can make that work. Thanks

I also made one for my last trailer but can't find a photo. I used a length of 1/2 inch pvc water pipe with a butt connector glued to the end. I notched the butt conncetor to accept the arm of the vent crank.

Certainly alot cheaper than replacing the fan for a remote controlled one for sure... I was shocked when I saw the prices when I searched for yours...

My fan in the living room is behind the ceiling fan so I have to turn that off before reaching up and turning the vent open knob...
