Question Slide Awnings question

My 2008 Jayco Eagle 341 RLQS has 4 Slides. Do you guys think I should put some slide awnings over my slide just in case when it rains or snows? Is it really necessary to use them?

We really like them as they keep debris from collecting on the top of the slides. Avoids the hassle of cleaning off the top of the slides before retracting when camping in wooded areas... especially pine forests. Others have commented that there can be flapping noises in windy conditions, but we've never noticed it. I wouldn't be without them. IMHO...

Have always had them on my slides. Keeps all the debris off. Too old to climb up on the roof to clean them when putting the slides in!

For those that added them aftermarket, is it worth doing yourself or better to have it done by the dealer or Camping World, etc.

I'm handy enough to be dangerous.

I have added them as aftermarket items on three different units. Not difficult to do if you are somewhat handy with tools, etc. We have always used two people to install. I don't think there is any way I could have done it by myself.

I Installed them on all the units we bought that had slides. Luckily the SENECA came with them so it saved me a little work.

For those who have installed them, do they take the place of the rain gutter right above the slide? Do remove the current gutter or place awning above it. Guess you would need to know where the studs are for anchoring?

The awning rail installs below the gutter just like a regular awning.. Also you do not need to find the studs there are screws in the rail every 5/6 inches. I've installed them on aluminum and fiberglass sides with no problem at all.

I will have to look at my drip rail and see if it has the slot for an awning. The actual gutter is at the roof top and i think would be to high.

We have them and wouldn't be without them. Lot's of YouTube videos on the installation process.

No. The new rail goes below the drip rail/gutter with the slot that the awning slides into on the top.

Are the camping world versions any good? They will install for $29 or sometimes $39.

Well $600 price for a 1 slide awning to me is expensive. One of my slides is 13ft long. I can just imagine how much that would cost me lol. So what I'm planing is getting some EDPM white matreial and cutting it to size and getting some industrial velcro to fasten it on with.

My slide sizes:

Left slide: 13ft long
Right slide #1. 8ft long.
Right slide #2 6.5' long
Right slide #3 8' long

As you can see it would cost me some major dollars to put awnings on my rig with those type of prices above.
