Soot on camper

I have a new tow vehicle - 2016 F250, 6.7 diesel. Last week was the first pull with the truck (it was great). I noticed something grimy on the 5th wheel drivers side. I thought I ran over something. I have temporary mud flaps when I tow. I cleaned it off and didn't worry about it

Got back today from another camping weekend and noticed the grime again. Could it be exhaust from the truck swirling around ?

It's probably from the regen cycle on your truck. I have it on mine as well. The only thing that doesn't make sense is the drivers side as mine is behind my exhaust on the pasenger side

No modern diesel should emit any soot. My truck burns cleaner then my wife's Honda. The only thing you should notice during a regen is a higher temp.

Being it's on the driver side my guess would be some sort of road grime that lands there because there is no exhaust pipe on that side to catch it.

If not that check for a leaky wheel seal, odd tire wear, something else coming off that side of the truck.

I get all kinds of road grime and black tar deposits in my rig that I attribute to stuff on the road. My truck is old enough to not have the DEF tank. I have large rock guards but they don't stop this road haze!

I use this to remove it, available at most auto parts stores: Stoner Tarminator removes bug residue, tar, tree sap, gum and more from automotive surfaces! bug & tar remover, auto spot cleaner, car bug & tar

Tarminator. I have no interest in this company and have a few cans that last a long time.

It must because of the FORD - Foreign Object Road Debris!

I recently went on a trip south and when I arrived I noticed grime on the passenger side. I was thinking some sort of exhaust left overs as well. On the return trip it was solely on the drivers side. Makes me think road grime. I have never seen grime like it before. Took quite a while to wash it off.

I am going to order that Tarminator stuff. Hopefully that will save some elbow grease in the future.

Before you order expensive cleaner, try a little WD-40. You'd be amazed how well it cleans and will not hurt the finish.

I can assure you that my truck blows smoke when it hits regeneration under certain conditions. Ford says it's not supposed to as well but after replacing the entire exhaust system twice under warranty it still does it. I've talked to many owners of the 6.4 who have the same issue. So that's my reality.

I'd have another talk with Ford. Volkswagen didn't fair well when there cars didn't meet the emission standards. Soot is a bad sign not only from a pollution stand point but something is certainly not running right.

I should, but I'm not going to. It's a source of heartburn and raises my bloodpressure. <deleted my rant>

Soap and water took it off with no problem. I never noticed this with my 2005 6.0.

Your 6.0l does not have a DPF filter
