Suggestions from 5vr Vets

Good morning!
We are trying to plan our first trip this season with our new fifth wheel. We live in northern Illinois and will have one week, so a little concerned where we can safely go with this weather. Any suggestions from the group would be welcome. I'm sure we are all stir crazy and eager to get out!
Thanks!

When are you planning on leaving? Given your starting location, the weather may determine where you go. If this is your 'shakedown' trip, I wouldn't go too far. Maybe a cg within 100 miles to make sure everything works.

I would stay fairly close to home in case you have to pack up early to beat a storm that is approaching. I am not real fond of towing on ice and snow. Given the winter that we are having, I don't think spring will be early. Suggest you do a search for campgrounds within 2 hrs of home base. That way you could do a proper shake down of the new unit but still be close enough to home in case another storm approaches.

I would drive south for 1-1/2 days, stay for 3 then head home. Hopefully that will get you into some decent weather, say around Nashville, TN. Of course if you are tied to the March 8-15 time period, you may have to cancel the entire trip if the weather forcast turns bad. March can have some pretty spectacular snow storms. Good luck and hope it works out for you.

Take a look for something near Russellville, AR. Won't be t-shirt weather but shouldn't be snow covered

How far you go, might depend on how far south you have to go to find an open Camp Ground! Not to many open yet in Illinois in March. Most don't open till April!
