Tailgate clearance

With a new Pinnacle on order, I am looking to find out if there is any clearance issues with hooking up and the tailgate. If there is a chance of a problem I would like to replace it before the unit arrives.

Sorry, can't help with your question! My tailgate hangs on the wall of the garage all summer.

I have a 2016 FBTS and you have to be straight to hook up, you only have about six inches between tailgate and the camper when its down and your connected. I installed a slider on my hitch, I didnt like being that close and besides I hook up at a angle in many of the places we camp. They shortened the hitch space on the new campers, I used to be able to walk between tailgate and camper when it was down , now its impossible.

We have a B&W hitch, that works great, and thinking I may need to get a fifth wheel tailgate just to be safe.

Because everybody wants a big front storage compartment. Our 2015 FLSA PINNACLE has a smaller front basement than the 16 & 17 and I have plenty of room with the tailgate down.

I switched over to a 5th wheel type tailgate - which can remain upright when connecting - specifically because my previous 2002 F250 tailgate (ever so slightly) damaged my basement door. YMMV.

2nd mod to my new truck back in 2006 was to add a V tailgate. 1st was spray on bed liner.

Jayco does not use extended pin boxes. Wish they did. My old 5th wheel there was plenty of room between tailgate down and fifth wheel. Not with Jayco......

Make sure you are STRAIGHT when hooking up.

My 2011 Eagle came with an extended pin MorRyde pin box.

Our 2012 Eagle had room for me to walk between. Bought the 2016 Pinnacle and am sure glad I went back to check as I would've hit the tail gate into the storage door. There's hardly ANY room on this camper vs the Eagle. So now my DW stays by the rear of the truck and puts the TG up as I am finishing to back up or pull out. This year I think we will get the V tailgate.

This is interesting. Our '13 has room between the tailgate and front storage with the gate down. We have a Mor-Ryde pin box but I can't say if it's extended or not. I can connect to the 5th at an angle (not an extreme angle) without problems.

I currently have a 2011 Jayco Eagle 321RLTS, and have a more than enough room between the 5th wheel and the tailgate when hitching up, Is there a lot less room with the newer Jayco 5th wheels? I am currently in the process of buying a 2016 North Point 341RLTS. I guess I just assumed that the space would be the same between the tailgate and the 5th wheel. I drive a 2016 GMC Sierra 3500HD Denali Crew cab 4x4 with the Duramax.

Does anyone else out there have this truck or something close and one of the 2016 North Points to help clarify this.

Thanks,

Greg

I have a 2016 FBTS and a 2017 ford f350 . The tailgate is close and you must hit straight on you can hook up at a angle . It is tight but just have to make a mental note of it and remember to hook straight on .

I installed the Stromberg Carlson 100 V Gate last year. Super easy to install and worth the cost. Left it on all summer and removed it in the fall. I can leave it up while hooking-up with no problems.
