Great job. Really a hard lesson to be learned. You should be proud of the job you have done.

Spent the last couple of days trying, (key word) to get the nose cap sealed up. Applied some good sealant, cleaned up with mineral spirits, and also got the vinyl strips replaced.

You can also take note of the screw job we did for the bottom panels. Even with the screws from the factory, it was really floppy. We also found it was way out of square. It took a bit of work, but 2 of us got it back straight.

Im currently working on replacing one of the bedroom cabinets. I could do better work, but I do not want to spend alot of money on materials for something I won't use that much. It will function good, and look ok. Pics to come...

Got more of the bedroom back together. Now its mostly habitable. I'll start installing some finish trim and then probably do some touch up painting. Also got the stair threshold trimmed up...

After this? Probably finish getting the Pro Guard coating on the roof, as well as getting some on the slide out.

Awesome job!
I hate that you had to do it. But I'm glad you shared the experience.

I hope some people learn from my thread. These units are in no way built to last. If the construction techniques have changed since 1995, they may be a little better built. but they are not meant to last a lifetime. They are meant to be left at a junkyard in 10 years, and replaced with the newest unit...

With the awesome weather we've started to get, and the wife wanting her freezer space back... i coated the slideout roof and most of the forward section of the unit with a second coat of Pro Guard Liquid Roof. This stuff was probably 25% set... so i didnt get nearly enough spread with it. This stuff should NOT be rolled on, as i did it before. I used a squeegee this time, and it will produce better results.

For giggles, i used a piece that had set in the can previously, as a patch over the biggest wound in the roof. Its almost 1/4" thick. Ill draw a smiley face on it when its set. I gotta enjoy myself somehow with this project!

I doubt there are many 15-20 year old units that have not had some type of leak somewhere during their life. We just sold a 2000 forest river unit last year that we had owned for 12 years, and during that time it had leaked in almost every imaginable place. Our key was to find and fix, but there was still some damage. One of our main leak origins was around the windows. Also the hardest to detect until there was obvious swelling. When I sold it the buyer was looking for a unit to place under a metal carport. I showed them all the previous problems and the fixes I had done, and they were fine. I talked to them a few months ago and everything was still good.

Luck of the draw.

I was completely clueless when i bought this thing. What i know now, i would have never bought this. There is alot of learning to be done with owning a RV, and if there is a next time, ill know what to look and smell for.
