Unhappy Thermostat fiasco

My new Jatco 40' Eagle Premier was in the shop after a year to get some things fixed. Cap need repainting, diode lights under the awning all went out, the 4 step stairs were recalled and the Heating-Cooling thermostat was 4-6 degrees off.

Seems like a lot for a top of the line unit. All taking more that a month (waiting on back ordered diode light strips.) I guess all the lights are going to the xmas tree market.

The real joke is the factory rep says 4-6 degrees is "within allowable tolerances"

Come on, I have to set the AC to 82 for a 76.

Today's t-stats are +/-2 degrees or better especially if they are digital. If it's digital it could have an offset adjustment to tweak the display to read what your reference thermometer says.

You don't state what kind of thermostat you currently have. If it's an older analog type, you will get the temp variance. I replaced mine with a digital and it's spot on. You have me a bit confused, why would you set the AC to 82* to get 76*. Seems like you should be setting the AC at 70* "and" get 76*.

The Coleman digital for our main a/c unit is exact, the one in our bedroom was off 4-6 degrees. I called my dealer and he said Coleman had a problem with a batch of thermostats, some read the room temp correct and some didn't. He sent me a new one that was from a new batch and it reads correct.

I checked mine with a good instant read thermometer that was for confirmed correct in boiling water and in ice water.

My digital replacement is like that too. The old manual one would have a 3-4 degree swing... If I set it at 74 degrees, it would let the temp get to 78 before the AC kicked on, then would cool to 70 before it shut off. Its annoying, but tolerable for adults. We had a newborn baby trying to sleep in those conditions whose body temperature doesn't regulate nearly as well. That was unacceptable.

We bought a digital thermostat and installed that. The temp on the display is off by a lot, maybe 4 or 5 degrees, but it holds the temperature pretty steady. We have an indoor/outdoor digital thermometer, so I just dial the temperature in right and leave it alone.

I wasn't able to find any way to adjust my Coleman-Mach thermostat.

Don't forget that while you have a higher end RV, some components are the same standard components that you would find in my lower end JayFlight...

I had the same problem with my 2013 Eagle Premier 351mkts. I had a new thermostat put in and still had the same problem. I finally found out what the problem was. I removed the thermostat and discovered that they had a 1 1/2 hole thru the wall to run the small wires for the thermostat. As the basement is heated , warm air was being drawn up thru the wiring chase like chimney heating up the thermostat from the back causing a false reading. I cut off a piece of swim noodle, ran the wires thru the middle and glued it flush with the wall. I then reattached the thermostat. It solved the problem for me.

I forgot that I did one more thing. When I got home I removed the back wall of the basement, found the wiring chase and stuffed insulation in it to stop the air flow.
