Thetford Aqua Magic Foot Pedal Fell off

Kiddo was out in the RV and said the foot pedal fell off the toilet...

Gave it a quick look and can't see exactly how it is held on. Don't see anything broken or parts on the floor.

It's too darn cold to worry about it right now but I'd figure I'd see if anyone else had this happen.

So it looks like it's a snap together part, thanks for posting the video.

After a couple of years of full time use mine just became so loose it would not stay on. The plastic just seemed to wear to the point it wouldn't stay in place. I just bought a new one. It was much easier than trying to figure out what had loosened up I never found the problem. The new one has worked fine for several years since.

So I just wanted to post a followup in case others come across this issue:

With the help of the video I was able to successfully get the pedal back in place. There are a couple of tips in the video I missed the first time and it nearly cost me.

Pay attention to where the position of the flapper valve actuator and the water valve actuator are. They need to be rotated to the clockwise position against there respective stops. (the water flow is off, and the flapper valve is closed.)

The first time I snapped the pedal on I went to test it and was getting some resistance. Inspection revealed that the flapper actuator had not seated in the proper slot. Had I put my full pressure on the pedal it would have snapped it off... (Parts are available, but still)

The key is that as described in the video the actuators be in the proper position and that once you have the pedal partially seated you need to put a small amount of preload in the counterclockwise position on the spring. Once you do that everything will seat in the proper locations and the retaining bulge ring on the pedal will nearly be seated. Then one good whack with the fist and everything snaps into place.

I was able to complete this without removing the fixture from the floor, saving me the step of having to replace that gasket.

I'm not sure I'm sold that this is a great design, but then what do I know....

Never got a straight answer from the kids as to what they were doing as the trailer was winterized and they know not to use the toilet..... I have a feeling it was part of a dare ... "here smell this.... " moment

Anyway, all is good.
