Thinking of going with a fifth wheel next - Page 2

Well another option is the 338 rets like I have. It is a travel trailer with rear living, front bedroom with slide and plenty of space around couch and in kitchen. total gvwr around 10400 loaded and hitch weight of 1400 tops. We love ours and its not hard to back or pull. It has separate entrances to the bathroom from either master or hall, a huge shower and although storage is more limited than the fifth wheels we like it because if we have our camper stored near where we camp we wouldn't have to empty bed of truck to hook up when we get there

I do have to preface that with such a large TV, the TT does not tow any different from a 5r. Your mileage may vary. Even the Equalizer 14K has no real effect.

I was looking at the 338 and the 34 trailer models. My only concern is my overall length with these. I would imagine it would be more difficult to maneuver. My TV has the extended cab plus an 8 foot bed. It would be like driving a train. I'm quite long as it is with my 28 foot trailer.

You will get used to it. It seems overwhelming until you do it.
I went from 32' to 36' to 40'. It's no big deal.

I agree. I have a 12' bed, megacab, and a 39+' TT and the only time it really makes a difference is backing into some older RV parks with no drive throughs.

After owning a 2009 33RKS Jayflight G2 for a few years and owning my current 36REQS Pinnacle for a couple of years, I would never go back to a TT. I can say that even with a huge difference in weight, the Pinnacle pulls better with my Crew Cab, long bed Chevy Duramax Dually than the TT did. I have a GooseBox on my Pinnacle that really gives a better pull than a fifth wheel hitch and pin box. I know that will cause an uproar with everyone that has never experience one, but I will never go back to a 5th wheel hitch and pin box again. Having a long bed truck and a goose neck hookup, I still have a lot of usable space in the bed. When not towing, I don't have to fight a hitch taking up the bed either. In my opinion, if you can get into a 5th wheel, you won't be disappointed.

I was concerned too when I found out the length as I had a crewcab longbed and figured I would be 61 foot but the only places I have found maneuvering to be an issue is making sure you go into a fuel pump you can get out of and when we went to Pokagon state park in Indiana and there were some hairpin turns with trees on both sides ... older park that I don't believe was designed for the big boys. but with patience and a good spotter for a wife I haven't gotten stuck yet lol . The only other thing I had to take into concideration was having 3 slides as opposed to the one that we used to have but I can tell you I love the bedroom slide and the layout of the 338 and it pulls better than my old 32 footer used to
