Biodiesel is made from vegetable oil. It does lower mileage. The higher percentage that's added, the more the mpg will drop. Most modern diesels can only run b20 or less (less than 20% bio), where older trucks can run higher percentage of it or even all biodiesel (heck some can run straight veg oil)

I see. So the place I ended up filling up at said 5-20% biodiesel at the pump. I'm guessing there are still gas stations that offer just straight up low sulfur diesel?

I average 11-12 towing my fully loaded 377. I have the same truck you do. No trailer I get 22-23 highway 17-18 highway combined. Couple things, your truck will do regens to clean out the dp filter every so often, beyond the drop in mpg when it does this you will notice it's idling up higher.
Bio diesel is the equivalent of ethanol for gas vehicles. It's garbage and doesn't help your mpg. My Nissan was flex fuel and I was going to put e-85 in once and decided to read the owners manual. It said it was safe to run but would lower the mpg. SMH.

Man that's better fuel mileage than I was getting. I averaged almost 18 mpg on the highway driving the truck home the 350 or so miles from the dealership. Granted I had the cruise on 78. But with cruise on 70 pulling the small TT it was 10. Are you going less than 70 pulling your rig or does the fuel economy just get better as the engine gets more miles on it? Also where do you find just regular ultra low sulfur diesel?

I had an '11 F-250 diesel and my mileage was almost identical pulling our 34' 5er or a 18' bumper pull cargo trailer. As others have mentioned... It's more an issue of drag than it is of weight on the highway. Around town the weight might play more into the equation.

Do any of you guys have a retrax bed cover? I'm thinking about getting one, but I want to make sure it will clear the fifth wheel and have enough space before ordering it.

I finally picked up the new 5th wheel and drove it across Nashville to storage. Over the 40 mile drive I only averaged 8.9 mpg with cruise on 70. Also, I was under the impression 5th wheels pulled smooth. This thing jerked front back the whole way and only rode smooth when coasting down a hill. Any advice?

Mine chucks pretty good forward and back. On the Mor-Ryde pin box there are nylon pucks and they draw a pretty wide circle in the dust during a road trip. It tracks straight though but mine rides like an unsprung buckboard. The G tires are likely a part of that.

Mine really doesn't ride that bad...what hitch are you using? As Players said, I did upgrade my tires.

I think it'll ride better once you load it up and get some extra weight on the pin. I had a similar experience when I brought mine home. Once I loaded it up to go on our maiden trip, it rode much better.

I got a 18k Patriot slider. Ours does have the built in generator which would be adding a little weight to the pin. Not sure if that matters or not. I haven't upgraded tires yet, but people keep recommending the Michelin trailer tires. So I'm going to start comparing tires soon.

The pin box also did a number on my tailgate when I had the hitch slid to the back. Apparently the hitch was too low?

I have the same hitch as you...but I don't have the generator. I guess for me the biggest difference is the airbags I have on the rear. Maybe that's the difference?? I never tower our 5er without the airbags, so I have no comparison...sorry.

No truck yet but in the near future. Planning on getting one with a GCWR of at least 2ooolbs. over what I need. I think Bigger is better in this case. So it will be the Mother of all F350 duallys for sure.

I had a retrax on my last truck. Loved it. Only draw back was that it rattled when driving. Windows rolled up no issue but with the windows down the rattle could be irritating.

I never go above 60-65 when towing and rarely 70 when driving without the RV. I work in the trucking industry. Before I came out of the truck into the office I drove a Mack governed at 63mph so I'm accustomed to it. Anything above 63mph is just burning fuel for the sake of doing so.
Everyone worries about weights ,gvwr, tires etc. but speed, speed makes almost every bad event worse and offers no quantifiable return.
I'm not judging. There was a time I would have drove as fast as not getting caught would allow. My perspective has just changed.

Same here. My first long trip pulling a pop up at 65 was agonizing. Semi trucks passing me. Grandma's flipping me off. Lance Armstrong wannabes blasting past me on downhills.
Now I'm fine no matter what I am towing. Ford claims it's fine to use overdrive and cruise control so I do. (Dry weather and flat).

I have my hitch head set at highest setting...just for that reason. The pin box is still very close to the tailgate when I slide it back, but it clears! Actually, I've not had a cause to use the slider (yet)...I've only slide it back to test it out a few times.

Yeah when I was towing I was able to make some pretty tight turns without needing it. They raised the hitch some after it rubbed the tailgate, but I didn't slide it back to see if it made a notable difference. I think I will just avoid using the slider unless I absolutely have to.
