TPMS monitors ?

I have never been one to use TPMS monitors on my trailer. I always felt that getting out the guage and checking the tires kept me involved and forced me to look at the tires occasionally.

The older I get and the larger our rigs get , the more concerned I am about flat tires.

I'm looking for a reasonable priced solution for my new fifth wheel. What are you guys using?

About 2 months ago I purchased the TST 507RV with non flo thru sensors from greatrvproducts. After having a blow out on our last long haul even with checking pressure and temps regularly I opted for this route. It monitors both temp and pressure with alarm settings as well. I have used it for weekend local trips but not much really changes on a 45 min haul.

This has always been my dilema. For the most part we just don't have the time for long trips and 90% of our use is within an hour or two of home. Am I just purchasing another gadget to clutter the truck that is of little value.... or am I stupid for not having one already...

I have never had one in the 25 years of hauling till just now. I plugged it in for the local haul just to check it out. But with hauls exceeding 1300 miles with long haul days in the summer I wanted to keep an eye on temps and pressure. We usually do the long haul thing every other year. My logic was spend a known amount controllably to help possibly alleviate some expensive repairs from a blown tire.

I also believe they are currently running a 3rd year warranty, up from a 2 year on the unit I purchased.

I have the TST RV510. Going on 4 years. It's worth every penny I spent and it wasn't much. 8 sensors, one for every tire.

Peace of mind is priceless and I never had a tire blow up while sitting still.

I use the TST 507 Flow-thru. I don't put much stock in the temps they display because they're on extenders, but it's nice to know the pressures are right before I get underway. They're not cheap but seeing potential problems and not having to check the tires before every trip makes it worth it.

Thanks for the information. I'll check them out. Lots of technology available today and it never hurts to be safe.

I have a TST 507. Started with the nonflowthru sensors on our previous rig. They worked well, gave piece of mind, but were a pain to add air when necessary. Also I was concerned with the added stress on the valve stems.

When we got this rig, I had the tires replaced and had the shop install the internal sensors. Very happy with these, although I did have to install a booster (TST provided) in the trailer as they are just a bit too far away from the cab for a reliable signal.

Would not leave home without it.

I've used a monitor from Tire Minder (minderresearch.com) for a bit over 4 years and won't travel without one. I've had 2 dramatic tire failures and was alerted immediately of both and was able to get stopped before the flailing tire damaged anything.

I searched on e-bay for TPMS and can find prices for as little as $50 bucks for wireless units. Granted they come from China or Hong Kong, but still....

I may check them out.

I would not recommend getting the cheapest thing you can find. This is you and your families safety net!

I just sent my TST 510s in for battery replacement after 4 1/2 years. I got brand new ones in three days for $19.99 each. We fulltime and I never took them off the whole time. I am well pleased with TST.

Well I guess I am about due. A few of mine have been replaced under warranty but I may just do the same thing and get them all swapped out. I was going to inquire if they would upgrade mine and give me a credit as a happy customer.

What would you upgrade to? I wouldn't consider the other models (507) to be an upgrade having to change batteries every year. The 510s only have to be delt with every 4 1/2 to 5 years and mine, although still working fine, were all beat up and raggedy and chewed up. Learned to use a bit od dielectric grease to keep them easy to take off.

Changing 507 sensor batteries isn't a problem for me. I always take them off when I am parked for long periods. Air pressure is what turns them on so the batteries last longer this way. I always install them a few days prior to traveling to give the monitor time to tell me which batteries if any need replacing. I then can replace just the battery that needs it and be on my way. I did have a battery need replacing one time while traveling but since the system tells me which one I replaced it at my next rest/fuel stop. Works for me and is a lot cheaper than 510 battery replacements and I do it myself right now and when needed.

TST has a great product and I will not travel without mine installed. I did buy 2 spare sensors last year in case my 6 year old original sensors start to die on me. So far the spares are still in their original package.

I don't know but it will be a TST product. When I got it, the main reason was the good customer service, the longer life batteries and the price. I thought they were going to stop producing the 510 because it was like a close out price for the system with 8 sensors. I have never taken mine off either except once or twice a year to inspect and when I have replaced tires. The original metal stems are still working perfectly. I have never needed a booster either.

I never expected them to last this long so I was going to check and see if they had a better product but don't know that they do. When I read about the flow thru stems, it sounded appealing but I seldom have to use that feature, so I'll likely just send them all back for the $19.99 deal.

They are a great company as far as customer service and anytime I called them with a problem, I got a new sensor within days. Once I called for some spare rubber washers and they were almost overnight in my mail box.

Best service I ever had from a company.

We're on our first trip out with our new 377 that we added the TST 507 flow through's to, and they have worked well. I occasionally loose signal from the rear axle, but it's a 42' trailer, and I didn't have time to install the signal booster yet, as it only arrived two days before we left on this trip!
