Traveling with partially full grey tank.

I booked a res to try our new 26.5BHS next weekend only to find out the dump station is inop. There's a Flying J about 30 miles from the camp ground with dump facilities on our way home. I suspect we'll fill the grey about 1/2-3/4. I hate to cancel as a result of this, but can't find any diagrams or info on tank location in this trailer, and with the bottom side sealed up, I can't look in there to see how it's reinforced.

Would you travel those miles to dump or make a different plan?

I travel hundreds of miles with partial or completely full tanks. What good would a self contained RV be if you couldn't travel with anything in the tanks?

Yes, I would just stop on the way home. We have driven with ours many times with the tanks partially full. We just dump them at the next site that has hookups. You should be fine.

x2, on this. We have travelled several hundred miles with full tanks. I have been on rocky bumpy dirt roads in the mountains with full grey and black tanks.

Part of the point of a self contained RV is to be able to get away from the urban environment.

Yep, if nobody could travel with full tanks there would be no boondocking!

Ok. Thanks. My previous trailer was poorly reinforced back there, so I always made sure to dump. Even the two time we boondocked there was still a dump station at the park. This one I'm hoping is better constructed.

Have a fun maiden voyage.

We try not to travel with full tanks, but we have a few times.

On place we go to once in a while has horrible fw. We always fill our fw tanks at home.

We've had the same situation quite frequently. When we're boondocking sometimes I don't drain my tanks until I get my camper back to the storage lot. It's no problem.

I only avoid it as much as possible because I'm almost maxed out on weight and I don't enjoy having an extra 300 pounds of dead weight pushing me down the continental divide if I can help it.

10 years ago, people would probably be telling you to just dispose of your grey water on site. My last popup didn't even have a grey tank, it all went through a small hose and hit the dirt (or bucket)

When we are on the road, we only dump (everything) about every 3rd day.

My trailer holds 90gal of fresh water but grey is 33gal which means usually on day 3 or 4 it's full. I have no problem sneaking a few gallons of baby bath water onto the ground at all. It's no different than throwing your dish water out into the bush. Black tank, of course, proper disposal. I have traveled with full black and grey before, but not fresh tanks.

We dry camp for four days and find a dump station on the fifth. It's fine to empty grey water onto plants. We are not in campground that prohibit it
Mostly in Yukon Territorial campgrounds lately
Sometimes a thousand miles between emptying. And it the black tank that is of more concern. We can't dump that anywhere on the tundra

Tenters have to water the plants all the time

We camp in the desert all the time. Go out with full fresh, and come back with full black. The grey is usually pretty full on the return trip, because I like to use it to flush the lines after dumping black.

As an FYI, a number of rest areas on I-75 in Georgia have free dump stations. Normally located as you exit from the truck side. All I've used also have flush water available.

I 20 in between Augusta and Atlanta has one also. It wasn't marked with signs so I went in and asked. If you do use them don't make a mess or clean up if you do. One of the people that works at the I20 rest stop said they were thinking of closing it down because some fool without a hose or too lazy to get the hose out just dumped their tanks on the ground at the station. He said it is sometimes pretty nasty with people getting careless but they have been keeping a closer eye on things when they rest area is manned. Maybe it was those campaign busses and they will stay clean at least for a couple of years.

The only problem with traveling with full tanks is weight. 45gal of water (waste or fresh) is heavy. I agree that running a hose for grey water to local bushes is easy if your campground allows it.
