Water will not stay Hot

HI,
I can't get the water to stay hot I know the water heater is working but hot water will only stay hot for about 2 mins. The water heater was just fixed over the winter and this is the first time I have taken it out. Can someone please help me out what this problem?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

A little more info please...

Is this a tankless water heater?
Is the water heater on electric or gas?
Did you test the water heater after the repair, before you took it out?
What was repaired?
Have you check the position of the bypass valves?

If it's a tanked water heater, my money is on the bypass valve is open, which is tempering the water.

It is not tankless and it runs off both gas and electric. I just got trailer from someone in the family and im not sure if they tested it out. I have also checked the bypass and it is right. I can hear the water heater running.

If you are getting hot water then it goes cold it sounds like the valves on the back of the water heater may be in the wrong position. Take a look at the drawing below and make sure your valves are in the normal position and not bypassed. Also if you have an outside shower and make sure both hot and cold are off, if they are on and the valve on the shower head is off this allows hot/cold water to blend in the system causing no hot water.

Sounds like the one valve may not be functioning properly. It is very possible the handle is turning but the actual valve is not turning inside the housing or it may have partially turned. Definitely seems like a bypass valve issue of some sort.

Be sure that the valve is not turned completely so the handle is parallel with the cold water line.

There are more valves, an 07 will have three valves. There will be one between the hot and cold water lines (bypass valve). Then there will be one valve at each inlet and outlet to the water heater.

Send a message via Skype™ to ALJO
unless the former owner removed those valves what wouldn't been smart.

I think we got it and you are right they removed the other valves and to top it off they added a T without a valve. So the cold water was going through the bypass and the water heater at the same time. We are going to remove the T and get the T valve to fix it. So we should not have to add the other 2 valves.

It needs all 3 valves to winterize and isolate the water heater from the system for maintenance. Do you know for sure that the previous owner removed them? They don't have to be right at the water heater, just configured as the drawings show.
