Yikes - check those roofs!
So midway through our megatrip last fall, one of the campground owners asked about why one could see the outline of the framing on the skin of my fifth. I didn't know. Once pointed out, it did seem to be more apparent as time went on (or I just was noticing it more). I asked the dealer to check it out when we put it into storage late Oct.
They finally got to it this week. They are saying there is "delamination" on the entire right side, as well as the rear, of the 5th. All due to a tear in the roof.
They inspected it for me in May, and the mega trip was in Sept/Oct. to a pretty treeless region. So we're figuring a tree branch got me in June when going to various Minn. state parks, and it wasn't noticed.
They say the entire roof has to be replaced, for a cost of about $6,500 (!)
And the right side skin and rear skin of the trailer, for ~$16,000 (!)
We're getting in the range of full depreciated value of the RV!
Initial conversation with insurance (Amica) were all positive, so pending an opinion by their adjuster, this will be covered except for the relatively small deductible.
No idea yet on repair time. I'm optimistic it will all turn out well.
I think for me, one additional piece of equipment will be a small drone with camera, so I can check the roof after almost every campsite.
For those that have high deductible and/or more depreciated trailers - make sure to check the roof really often!
