12V TV power

On my Jay Flight there is a 12V power outlet near the television mounting spot, it looks like a cigarette lighter port. It's labelled "for 12V television plug in use only" or something to that effect.

I'm wanting to plug in a 12V fan there - any harm in doing so? Why is it labelled for TV use only?

Some people would try to use it for a cigarette lighter. The fan will be fine.

We have the same arrangement and I use it often to power cell phone chargers and sometimes a small DC fan.

It is just a warning to make you aware that it is not for running a air compressor or other high current devices, IMO.

I've used it for a fan a couple of times, but it is a VERY handy place for a voltmeter to keep an eye on the 12v side of things.

Ours has a max rating of 8 amps, just under 100 watts, printed underneath it - it's really hard to see unless you shine a light on it at just the right angle. We have a Y adapter that lets us plug a couple of things in at the same time. Currently we run a Fantastic Vent Endless Breeze fan and our fridge vent van off this outlet. Also have one of those plugin volt meters and USB chargers as well. So long as you don't exceed the rating your fine to run whatever you want off of it.

Does anyone know if there is switch for this outlet? Can't seem to get any power out of mine, have a USB adapter that works fine in my car, but not in the TT. Draw would be about 3A. I have tried it with the antenna amplifier on and off - no change. But since the amp turns on, there is 12V behind the panel. Before I pull out the multi-meter and start taking things apart and tracing wiring, thought I would ask if I am missing the easy solution.

Will be checking it out at the CG this weekend. Have the multi-meter packed already. First thought is that they may have the polarity reversed. Digital devices care about that. Will see what I find when I get the panel pulled.
