1st Mod to do

Have a brand new 2013 Jayco 26BH...what in your opinion would be the first mod needing to be accomplished?

Thanks

Electric tongue jack if you don't have one.

While I suggested the tongue jack, that may be the only thing you should do right now. Take your camper out a few times and you'll see what may or may not work for you. I've seen mods I would like to do and I've also seen some mods I would NEVER do. Just because a mod works for someone doesn't mean it will work for you.

For example, some people will replace their bulbs with LED lights. This is fine if you are camping without electricity but if you always plan to camp with electricity then it's really not needed.

For now, enjoy your new camper but also browse the forums to see what people have done. You'll eventually see what you may want to do.

When I had a TT that is the one thing that I really kicked my self for NOT doing. Get the electric tongue jack, and along with that an adapter for your cordless drill to raise and lower your stabilizer jacks. If I recall, a 3/4" socket and you can get a 3/8" drive "bit" for your drill. The combination of both will make things SO much nicer.

The electric jack wasn't my first but when I put it on I wondered why I waited so long.

I'd say it depends. I'm 42 and don't feel the need to spend money on something that it really not that much effort. My dad has been pushing me to use a drill for the stabilizers - I'm resisting because the provided tool is really easy and it means I carry less stuff. On the electric tongue jack - well, other than sometimes me or my DW getting confused on which way to turn it for up and down - it just isn't that hard.

As a boondocker most of the time, you can see my mods in my sig. I also replaced the kitchen sink faucet because the factory one was horrible. I put in switches to turn off "hard" the radio and propane detectors. (left the CO and smokes as always on!)

So, as I said, it depends

MY first mod was the elect tongue jack... put it on before I left the dealers lot.. he was not happy that I did it rather than pay him to do it.. but it took all of 10 min to do this mod...

I like the led lights , the 921 bulbs get hot , and that heats up the trailer . My daughter was in her bunk and the bulb made it too hot to stay in with the light on for an extended period of time , they won't melt the plastic lens cover , and last a lot longer .

I whole heartly agree with this recommendation about LED lights. I changed out 4 of my incandescent bulbs for two reasons:

1) When I travel with others I leave the LED light on in the bath at night as a night light. The incandescent bulbs got extremely hot but the LED does not. So I replaced the incandescent to cut down on the heat generated by them.

2) Even though I have dual batteries on the fiver, I am quite conscious of the drain on the batteries by the incandesent bulbs. Even though I have never boondocked and never intend to, mother nature had a change of plans for me the past week. I am in WV and was without electricity for almost a week. So I used the LED bulbs instead of the incandescents to conserve on the batteries. I have one in the kitchen, in the range hood; as stated one in the bath and two in the bedrrom. Makes a huge difference in helping conserve the batteries. I only used the incandescents when absolutely necessary.

X2 on the EMS to protect all your electronics. (Not to quibble over the definition of an EMS.)

But my now "old" 2011 came with SD cabling, but an HD television. And our 2nd "mod" after ther EMS was to buy an HD for the bedroom. So if you are going satellite, you'll want to run some HDMI cable in order to get HD in multiple rooms.

I did Maxx air covers and then a sewer hose holder. Next was the electric tongue jack. I would do the tongue jack first if I had to do it again.
