Arrow 2012 Jayco Jay Flight 32BHDS

My wife and I have been researching and looking for a travel trailer for the past 4 months and after visiting multiple RV shows, including the Pomona RV show this past week, we have purchased a 2012 Jayco Jay Flight 32BHDS. It is ordered and currently being built. Once we take delivery we plan to have a few custom features added to the coach. (Listed in the signature.)

I was told by one particular dealer at the Pomona RV show that they sold over 110 2012 Jay Flight 32BHDS' in a 10 day period. Did anyone else pick one up at the show? Are there any other 2012 Jay Flight 32BHDS owners here?

As most are at this time we're pretty excited to get the new rig! My wife asks me daily, "When are we picking up the trailer!?"

Just wanted to get a thread started with new 2012 32BHDS Jay Flight owners!

We just finalized a deal to pick one up when i get home from Iraq. It's an in stock trailer at the dealer but is pretty much fully loaded. The wife and kids are super excited. I'm coming home early and we're getting a new camper(maybe even before Christmas!). We currently have a 06 29BHS and when the kids bring friends along it gets kind of cozy so we are definitely looking forward to the extra room.

Congrats on your purchase. Let us know how you like it when it arrives.

Welcome to JOF, DSS597. I know there are members with the 32BHDS, just not sure how many have the 2012 model.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new Christmas present. The early trip home from Iraq is the best present of them all though! Stay safe and enjoy your new Jayco.

How do you like your MotoSat F1/D2/7000? I have the same setup, but a D3...hate it...have to reprovision or change transponders about every time I use it because SatMex 5 is such a piece of junk. Would like to move, but they have not been able to get me anywhere and keep my BOW working.

I haven't taken delivery of the rig yet in order to have the Motosat install done, BUT I did have a F1/D3/7000 on my Rage'n and I was very content with it. In the beginning I did have to get a new daughter board for the dish because it would search forever. After I replaced that it was flawless. I was on SatMex 5 also in order to get the DirecTV HD, and Internet was just fine. I always had speeds that were acceptable, and I even used my Vonage phone.

I don't want to get too far topic, but send me a picture of your BOW. I can point you to a site that has the newest BOW and LNB.

Welcome to the Jayco Owners Forum. Information from most Jayco's will apply to your new trailer.

Nice! Can you tell me what package/options you chose. Have you had it out in the rain? We plan on putting a power awning on the entire port side of the rig to cover the slide-outs and windows. We can't wait!

You probably have no problems towing it with the Dodge 2500.

Well, it was a model already on the lot so we did not special order. It does have the power awning, power stabilizers, electric tongue jack, outside kitchen, thermal package, slide out bike rack on the back, 15k A/C and the J Cube in the back bedroom. I also went with the Reese dual cam for the hitch.

We have not camped in the rain so cant help you there.

The Dodge has no issues pulling it, although it is a heavy camper. I have not had a chance to weigh it, but i'm guessing it's coming in somewhere around 9500. It came from the factory at 8640, but dont know how accurate that is.

We hope to get another weekend in before winter, but not sure that will happen with schedules and weather.

I have the 2011 model with almost all of the options. We have the outdoor kitchen, hide-a-bed in the front, and the trundle bed in the back, among other things. From the factory, it weighed 8,300lbs. When I took it to the scale a couple of weeks back, it was right at 9,600, so all of our gear has definitely added up! I'm pulling it with an F250, and I can definitely tell that it is back there.

I have a 2009 32BHDS 7984 lbs. from the factory. I tow this with a '99 Silverado ECSB 1500. I also have a 2008 Suburban 1500 (same as your Yukon XL). I tow our stock trailer with our Suburban and also your 18' utility trailer with our tractor on it. I've also towed Mom's 30' (no slides) camper. It did all of that fine. Some say I'm crazy for towing the camper w/ our Silverado, but I won't hook on to it w/o our Suburban. I just feel the very soft coil springs of the Suburban won't handle the weight of the trailer. I'm over weight w/ the Silverado, it has "D" range LT tires vs. C range passenger tires on the 'burb. I've also swapped the springs for ones from a 2500 HD. This is no way makes my Silverado a 2500, but it did help it - though it is still illegal. Looking forward to the day I can buy a Duramax to tow with.

If you pull this with your Yukon XL, be very careful with it.

That's good to know. I'm sure ours is going to be about 8,200 lbs. and some change from the factory. After we add the Motosat and other options it's going to be around 8,900 lbs. Going to give the Yukon a shot, and if it struggles, we'll grab a new tow vehicle. I don't think it will be too much of an issue for the distances we travel. I had a 2006 Rage'n Toyhauler, and I would have it loaded up to the max, full 40 gallons of fuel, full water tank, and loaded up in the cargo area, and with the Hensley Hitch it didn't even feel like I had a trailer on the back.

jwstewar,

Yeah, I'm actually quite amazed at how the Yukon XL handles at or just below its towing capacity. I've never felt unsafe or uncertain while towing. I really think a lot of it has to do with the Hensley Hitch, and I also have the Autoride suspension package. (I also have the 20" wheels, all terrain tires.) It just seems like the weight is distributed across both vehicles just enough. When you look at the vehicles from the side, it just has one nice straight line, no sagging at all. Acceleration is good, and no problems stopping. I pretty much do 55-60 mph even up hill at not so steep grades.

I just pray it will be the same with the new 32BHDS.

DSS597,

Welcome to the Jayco forums.

The 32BHDS is a nice TT for a family with lots of room. My brother in-law had the early '07' version in the 31BHDS (similar floorplan, 8,200lbs loaded) and towed it with a Ford F-150/5.4L.

TexasA&M touched on the reality of how heavy the 32BHDS can get once one starts loading it with cargo, and with the additional upgrades/modifications you are planning IMO you will easily match TexasA&M's CAT scale loaded weight of 9,600lbs. This would give you a desired loaded tongue weight range of 1,248lbs to 1,440lbs (13% to 15% of loaded TT weight) for a 36 foot long TT. Also, the Hensley (excellent WDH) will add another 100lbs to your tongue weight.

Not sure if your running the 5.3L or 6.0L (if offered in the 1500 model) drivetrain in your Yukon, but the 6.0L will give you little more towing capability if you have it (Denali had the 6.2L). Just for piece of mind you may want to check the weight limit specifications of your TV (GVWR, GCWR, etc.), and most importantly the weight limits of your OEM receiver under WD mode. I'm a little concerned that you may be exceeding your TV's towing capability under loaded TV/TT conditions.

You may find the following forum sticky's helpful:

http://www.jaycoowners.com/showthread.php?t=3872

Just food for thought in preparing for your new TT's arrival .

Bob

Yeah, we've been researching it all to no end, and at this point it is all speculation and estimates without having the true weights. We really have no choice but to wait until we take delivery and have all of the options put on, at that point we're going to put it on all of the different scales (weight, tongue weight, etc.) and evaluate from there.

Since you plan on going to the CAT scale at some point in time, this may help in the weighing process: http://www.jaycoowners.com/showthread.php?t=3871
