Don't know what grades you might encounter on your trips, but let me toss this out there.
My 2015 GMC 6.0 gasser with 4:10 rear did (in my opinion) just fine on our trip to Florida (about 3000 mi roundtrip) via I-75 going south and I-65 going north. We were pulling about 9200 in the trailer and another 1000 give or take in the bed of the truck.
Since I wanted to see what it would do, I ran in tow/haul mode with the cruise set about 63 the whole time. Going uphill, there was downshifting from 6th to 5th on most hills and only went to 4th one time and that was at Jericho.
As for downhill, it never felt the need to downshift with one exception, which was when we were traversing the Monteagle pass on I-65 north. It was obviously steeper than anything on I-75 and although I was hesitant, I again let the truck do it's thing. It needed to downshift to 4th gear to maintain the 45 mph cruise setting, but handled it just fine. So never touched the brakes once on any downhill taking those routes.
Overall got about 8-8.5 mph and was a very pleasant trip. I plan on doing it again this year with our heavier 2017 Eagle 330RSTS (if it ever gets here!) and have no doubt it can handle it just fine.
