2017 Ford F250

I couldn't hold out until September so I went ahead and upgraded from my F150 to a new F250 TV. Two questions about the F250 for anyone who upgraded:

1. On my F150 I had to add a relay and fuse to get the TV to charge the battery in the TT. Do you have to do that in the F250 or are they already installed?

2. In the glove box was a baggie with some small parts that reads "Tailgate Delete CAP/Kit". What is that for?

2017 f 250

should be a plug to cover the cable for the camera when you take the tailgate off

I didn't upgrade, but my 2015 F250 charges my trailer as we travel without having to add anything. My old 2005 Chevy, I had to put a fuse in under the hood to get it to charge as there was just a blank in that spot. The best way to tell is to see what your batteries are at, and then plug the truck in - should increase if it's charging.

Thanks - good to know. No plans to ever remove tailgate but you never know.

This has been the norm for Fords, you should have a poly bag in the glove box with the parts and instructions. On my Expedition the parts were in with the spare tire behind the seats.

Our F250 charges our battery as well without having to install any relay or fuse. Confirmed through our battery monitor. Somewhere around 7 amps if memory serves.

My 250 wont be here for a couple weeks still, but thanks for the thread. I'm sure I'll have some questions too. For what it's worth, I didn't have to do anything with fuses or whatever to get my 150 to charge my camper, guess I lucked out.

If you get the towing package, it should be appropriately prewired for everything you need, to include 12+ to the trailer. Most, but not all, 3/4 ton trucks should have towing packages and be ready to go. My friend bought a 2016 F350 last fall with towing package and it was completely prewired and ready for action.

I upgraded from my 2016 F150 to my 2017 F250. I had the same question. My dealership told me that the new F250's will automatically begin charging the battery when needed. There is a trailer module under the hood that controls everything related to towing a trailer. You do not need to install anything.

The cap in the plastic bag that resides in the glove compartment is to put over the plug to the tailgate camera if you decide to remove your tailgate.

Some of my friends with 5th wheels have removed their rather expensive tail gates, and replaced them with a slotted plastic gate that has a 'v' notch in the middle. I guess it makes them happy... As expensive as these new tail gates are, I'm not sure I'd ever take mine out, but I guess sometimes there is a legit reason for it. At least I'll know what that plug is for

Thanks Bansi - many times on this forum I feel like I was the only one that didn't know how something I've never seen before works

I have a closet in my garage and probably 80% of the items in it fit that category. Don't know what it's all for, but the moment I throw the stuff out I'll figure out why I needed it.

Congrats! 6.7 or 6.2?

If gas, did you get 3.73 or 4.30s? Can't wait to upgrade next year myself

6.7 diesel. Sounds like a quiet 18 wheeler
440 HP
925 ft lbs torque
Interior is so big if it had a shower & toilet I'd sell the TT

Have you hooked up to the trailer yet? A lot of 2017 owners, myself included have discovered that a lot of safety chain hooks will not work properly with the new Ford hitch. The 1" depth of the opening interferes with the ability of the safety catch to close. I ended up buying a pair of 5/8" quick links that will stay on the hitch because even they were a pain to get on. A lot of other have gone with 1/2" Hammerlok Couplings that stay mounted permanently or 5/8" Anchor Shackles. Some people have been lucky and their hooks fit. There is an 11 page thread on the ford-trucks.com forum about it.

Using short link of chain through slots with 10k quick link and hooks through the Q link. Short link and Q link stay on the truck.
