Question 24 fbs battery charging

Greetings fellow Jaycoites!

Does anyone know if a 2013 24FBS has an automatic battery charging control panel? I have been having a hard time finding out. The dealer doesn't seem to know and no response from JAYCO.

Basically I want to know if I can keep my trailer plugged in while in storage.

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. If your trailer has a small inverter box you can leave it plugged in for storage. Our trailer is always plugged in either at home or on a RV site.

We leave ours plugged in between trips while it sits next to the garage. No problem. It won't overcharge the battery. If you can't leave it plugged in while in storage you should disconnect the battery. All the parasitic loads (propane detector, etc) will drain the battery in a week or two if it's not plugged in.

Your 2013 24FBS is equipped with a Power Distribution Panel where all of the 120VAC circuit breakers and ATC 12VDC fuses are located. In the bottom compartment of this panel should be your CONVERTER that should keep your battery charged when plugged into shore power.

This google photo may show your Power Distribution Panel near the floor under your fridge. The CONVERTER MODULE in this unit will keep your battery charged.

You should be able to plug your 30AMP Trailler into a garage 120VAC 15AMP receptacle using a RV30A-15A Adapter (WALMART). If you need to use an extension to reach your parked trailer I would not go smaller than a 12GAUGE (12-3) heavy duty extension cord.

If your converter is a single mode 13.6VDC type charger thenyou will need to start checking your battery fluid levels at least every two weeks when plugged in. The constant 13.6VDC is right on the edge of boiling out your battery fluids which will do harm to the battery. If you have the SMART MODE Converter/charger then it should take care of your battery automatically. Post brand and model of your installed converter. You may need to upgrade it to a smart mode unit. I think most new trailer now come oout with smart mode converter/charger units.

We keep our two trailers plugged in all the time here connected to two separate 120VAC circuit receptacles in the garage.

We keep ours plugged in year round, but as Roy said you must keep tabs on your water levels. The largest downfall in RV converters is that they are single stage chargers (unless you have the smart mode) and they only charge a battery up to 13.5 volts (14.3 is a full charge). Long answer to say you'll be fine to keep it plugged in between trips.

Our 2014 24 FBS has the smart mode converter and we keep it plugged in all the time. As a personal preference I take out the batteries each winter, bring 'em into the garage and hook them up to the trickle charger (can't recall the charger name but it's one of those small green ones). I check the water level monthly and I've had good luck with this method for several years now.

BTW- Hey Roy -- At the house I plug mine into the regular house 15 or 20 Amp 120V outlet. Is there any real reason that I should run a 30 Amp circuit to the outside to plug it in??? I don't use the A/C or MW at home storage. Thanks, Jeff

Thanks everyone. I have never joined a forum of any kind before, all your help and comments are impressive and greatly appreciated. I will post my convertor info as soon as I can. I do have the size and type of wire and plug that Roy suggested, and my batteries are maintenance free. The battery manufacturer told me I don't really have to check the fluid levels in them.

Thanks Again!!
