The 267BHSW is still 5600# dry. Once you add propane, batteries, etc. you will be even heavier.
Our trailer is 4700# dry on website but actually about 4900# according to yellow sticker. When loaded guessing we were around 5500#. We pulled with our 1/2 ton Expedition all of 2 times before momma (me) said I don't want to do that again so we bit the bullet and upgraded to a 3/4 ton. Soooo much better and we can actually enjoy the ride now.
I would never go any heavier with a 1/2 ton from our experience.
Edit: Our Expedition had the heavy duty tow package too and a tow rating of 8950#.

Even with the 3/4 ton you would not tow anything heavier?

We did the same comparisons and ended up with 267BHSW. We are a family of 4 with a cat and 2 dogs that come with us on each trip. The nice size slide and 8.5 ft width helped us make our decision.
Totally loaded up for a big trip it weighed just under 7000lbs and tongue weight at 850lbs.
It doesnt have all the bells and whistles but we are really happy with it. Have fun shopping, you will be happy with whatever you decide.

No, I was referring to the 1/2 ton.

Here is my two cents, even though I've only owned a pop up, then a 5th and soon a second fifth. This is how we decided on our campers which may help you think through yours.
If you are asking the question, my guess is that you are thinking about the room and you'll find the smaller one cramped. Slides make a world of difference!! How old are your kids? If they are young now, the camper will only get smaller as they grow up.
Some people are minimalists and not having the slide doesn't matter. What type of person are you?
We got a 33' fiver as our first camper after the old pop up. Ordered it new when my son wasn't even walking yet. It was an entry level bunkhouse fifth wheel. DD who was 3 going on 4 was really excited to sleep on the top bunk. The couch and dinette where on one big slide and really opened up the main area. Never had one problem with the slide over 9 years and 45,000 miles. This was the biggest trailer by far that I have towed. It towed nice and ended up getting very comfortable with it in no time flat. It served us well for those 9 years, but it was falling apart and wasn't fully working for us anymore. The bunks were narrow and the kids (12 year old daughter is 5'-11" and son is going to follow suit) took to sleeping elsewhere, leaving a huge waste of space. In the end, I expected to get next to nothing on trade given the issues on it. I ended up getting just under half of a camper we paid $21k out the door on.
A camper is going to depreciate. The more you trade, the more you loose. The longer you keep it the less it is worth. You have to think about it as a vehicle. We tend to keep vehicles until they hit that point where they are no longer reliable (nearing 200k miles), aren't worth much and then buy a new one. I got a lot more enjoyment and memories out of the camper then I did any vehicle that I have ever owned.
That is when we started looking. The 29.5BHDS is what we feel will serve our needs. Gives the kids full size bunks (750 lb capacity) that will support them until they are done camping with us. Gives them their own storage for their clothes. Keeps them from sleeping in the living area. Gives DW an outside kitchen. This will hold us over until the kids are gone and then we'll probably trade for something without bunks. A lot of things change in campers over the course of several years.
Some people will trade every couple years looking for what is right. We didn't want to do that and are pretty comfortable that we got our money worth out of the first one and enjoyment as well. We feel pretty certain that this will be the case with the next one.
If you are in it for the long run, I'd think about one with a dinette/sofa slide. Hope the ramblings of our decisions can be of help to you!!

WE went back and forth on slide or no slide. Decided on the 26bh no slide.Plenty of room for our family of 5. If I we need a big living room with a big flat screen tv, I,ll just stay home. Its camping

x two what Cdash said.
If you're gonna get one,get one you'll be comfortable inside on a rainy or cold trip.
This is my first TT (upgraded from a couple of tents) and I didn't want to go through the pop up then the hybrid upgrade process...ect. So I got the 287 BHSW and plan to keep it for a long time.
The slide measures 13' long by 30" or 36" wide!
It has a ton of room inside, no squeezing by people to get to the bathroom. You can easily move around/cook in the kitchen while people are walking by.
I would say get something you'll be happy with 5 or 10 years from now and get the 287BHSW!
Either way you go you will have a nice trailer.
Good luck

We bought our 287 bhsw new about this time last year. I don't regret it. Thought we got a deal at $19k. We got a lot of extras thrown in. You will be amazed at the difference a slide makes in space. DW plus a teenager and I are very comfortable. One trip, my sister, BIL, and infant nephew plus porta-crib stayed the weekend and had plenty of room. For me, get as big as you can tow and afford. The best advice I can offer though is if you can afford to step up to a jayflight or eagle, I would. The slx is great, but I wish we had an electric water heater and some of the other features I would have gotten by not going with the base model. That's my opinion and it's worth what you paid for it.

My $.02. I have the 264BH (similar floor plan). I have family of three. My camper gets crowded especially if someone is trying to prepare a meal at the stove/sink area and everyone is inside. I think the general consensus is that you would want a slide with 4 people. If I could do it over again I would have bought the 26bhs. The length for us is perfect just wish we had the extra room with the slide. I have a 2015 F150 Supercrew Ecoboost with max tow. My payload sticker is 1792lbs. I would have no concerns about towing the 26bhs with the F150.
Good luck!

If your already thinking you may like more space and already not sure if a tow vehicle your looking at getting can to a bigger trailer, why not get the a 2500/250 and get the bigger trailer to start with? It will be cheaper in the long run.
I have had our 264 for two years and now want more space. We are a family of 5. Spend very little time in the trailer but it gets crowded in the evening when it's time to go in.
I bought our 264 over a bigger one without a slide for two reasons:
1) It is our first camper and didn't know if we would really take to camping so I didn't want to spend about $4k+ more for a bigger one with a slide. Well the wife and kids love it.
2) I really didn't want to take a chance with a slide that could have issues as you read about from time to time. I'm over that concern now. The number of slides with issues compared to the number out there is relatively small.
Now I really like our 264 but wishing I had spent the extra money upfront for a bigger trailer with a slide. I already have a 2500 diesel so the tow vehicle aspect was never a concern.
Good luck. It's a lot to think about.

Well it looks like we're going to go with the 287. We got a F250 so towing should be handled and I think we'll appreciate the extra space, especially as the kids get older. We are most likely going to go get it tomorrow. Thank you all for sharing your insights and experiences!

It's funny you say that. As we're signing the contract the guy's father comes over (family business) and says, "Hey, go show them that Puma 5th wheel out there! With that F250 he can pull that and he'd love that. It's only another $7000!"
I could see my wife's eyes lighting up...so I had to shut that down real quick. I was already getting heart palpitations writing that check for the 287. We don't need your stinkin Puma!

That's funny!!!
Buddy has a Puma 5ver. Basically the same floor plan we have in our 32 BHDS. Nice trailer. Only quirky thing is the outdoor shower is under the awning, right near the door. Who wants mud under the awning???
Congrats on the 287!!! What wdh did you go with??? Consider getting a 2.5" shank for the hitch also. Won't need the adapter, and take a chance of loosing it!!!
