267BHS towing

Just curious what other 267BHS owners are towing theirs with and how it pulls.

Vehicle and hitch please. Even info on a similar camper would be fantastic.
Thanks everyone!

Jenoble99, what hitch are you using and do you get any sway?

I pull mine with a F350 diesel. I started with a 1500, but have hills all around and was too much for my 5.3L. Now my trailer is too small!

I am mainly interested in the ability to tow this camper with a 1/2 ton pickup. Who's doing it, with what truck and hitch, and how well it pulls. I am not concerned so much with power as I am in terms of safety and control and if the camper sways.

I tow a 26BH which is only about 300# light dry weight, same GVW but I can hold 90 gallons of fresh water and we run close to full most times. I pull with my Tundra but upgraded to a Propride 3P hitch because the basic round bar WDH I had didn't control sway. The truck pulls the weight easily and the hitch eliminates all sway. I have NO safety fears now even in the event of a blowout. The problem I have now is keeping the speeds down to conserve fuel. The trailer and truck behave so well attached to each other I really have to watch my speed as I creep up towards 65 pretty quick on 55 mph roads.

I am towing a 28BHS with a 2008 4x4 5.7 Durango. I had the 10,000 lbs Equalizer and moved to the Hensley Arrow due trailer sway. I have yet to experience any sway since installing the HA.

I did pull a 26BH (very similar weight and same length) with a '04 Silverado and '04 Tahoe. Neither had any issue with sway, Tahoe was very close on cargo capacity. Both were 5.3L 3.73 4 speed, the 4 speed was my issue in the mountains. Slow mountain roads were brutal on the transmissions. I upgraded TV to get a 6 speed, although I could have gotten away with another gasser 1/2 ton I decided to prepare for the next upgrade and ended up with the 3/4 Duramax.

By the way I have used the Husky Centerline hitch with each TV. It's a great hitch.

See the sig. Not exact, but similar.

The truck does fine, but the wife wants to carry an ATV in the bed. Hence, I need a bigger truck.

Welcome to JOF

Yes, IMO a properly configured 1/2 ton pickup can tow a 267BHS....., "properly configured" is key.

Not all 1/2 ton's have the same Payload Capacities, so I would recommend if considering a 1/2 ton look for one that is configured (body style, axle gear ratio, etc.) giving you maximum Payload Capacity. Depending on your personal TV/TT loading habits, "available" Payload Capacity could become an important factor when you consider that a TT's loaded tongue weight is subtracted from the TV's available Payload Capacity. Figure 13% to 15% of a loaded TT's weight for your loaded TT tongue weight..., for enhanced TV handling of the 30ft long 267BHS.

On the subject of TV/TT sway..., a properly matched TV/TT combination (within specified weight limits), and a properly sized/adjusted WDH shouldn't incur any sway under normal towing conditions. Sway control should be looked at as a means to manage/control a sway event should one arise, and all the WDH's mentioned in this thread thus far will do so when properly sized/adjusted (w/integrated sway control or a friction sway control arm). Some sway issues can be the result of a poorly adjusted WDH, trailer towing tongue high, and/or over-loading.

Yes. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I pulled mine originally with a 2001 1500 5.3L extended cab with 3.73 4x4 98K miles with Reese WDH. The truck pulled fine and sway was not an issue. Tow capacity was within specs and did not have safety concerns. For me, the issue was not whether the truck could pull it, but if it towed it to my liking. On a calm day on a flat stretch, it was fantastic. With the 4 speed transmission, and living with rolling hills all around (Tennessee), it was not sufficient. I would spend the majority of my trip between 2nd and 3rd gear, running around 3500 rpm to maintain 60 mph. With a headwind, I would be at 4000 rpm and struggling to maintain 55mph. It was loud, and I felt like a sitting duck without additional power. I relied on downhill to get up to speed, and depending on length of incline, would slow down to 45 by the top. I bought a trailer based on the truck I had. If I could go back, I would buy the truck with extra power and would have purchased a a little longer of a trailer. Everyone has their own unique requirements and situations for their tow vehicle and whether it will work will depend on yours, but it CAN pull it.

Nope, no sway with our combo. I am using the Equalizer brand hitch. We had an '05 silverado prior to the '09, it was overloaded. I was not happy towing with that truck. It was also an extended cab. With two kids the cab was getting snug. We got a good deal on the CC, it had considerably higher payload, and with the HD cooling package, a higher towing capacity. The increased GVWR and GCWR were also a plus.

We have had our 267bhs for about a year and a half. I also have the Equal-i-zer hitch and love it. No sway ever. Started pulling it with '09 Ram 1500. It pulled very well on the flat land but the 3.55 gears had the tranny temps up higher than I liked. I went looking to trade in for a 1500 with 3.92 gears and managed to score my deal on the 2500 CTD. Now that I have pulled the 267 with my 2500 I could never go back. Night and day difference.

I'm pulling our 25BHS with a RAM 2500 5.7l Magnum. I'm using the original cheap Husky WDH and sway control. No sway issues at all so far.

this spring i plan on doing gears in my truck just to get me through another summer cause i want to have the option to pull my boat behind my trailer, i plan on getting a 3/4-1 ton in the next year or 2
