26bh few questions

Just got my 26bh home and was testing everything out. Can't seem to get fan in bathroom to come on? Anything I'm missing just the switch on wall for it ? And how long does it take the fridge to cool down just had it plugged in to 15 amp 110 house power for a few hr and didn't seem cold . Over all very mint and clean! Oh ya was also wondering if the battery chargers when the trailer is plugged in ?

Bathroom fan: check for a switch up by the fan itself. Both wall switch and fan switch should be on. If not check fuses....

RV refrigerators take a while to cool down to temperature when on electricity. Usually they are more efficient running on propane. Make sure the doors latch shut..

There should be another switch on the fan itself. Find it and leave it on and then the wall switch should control the on/off.

Leave it on overnight for a better test.

These RV refrigerators are 'absorption' type unlike the home 'compressor' type. It takes a while for the RV units to start cooling. Also, it is best to fill the RV refrigerator with food (etc.) that is already cooled down.

My 26BH doesn't have a wall switch for the fan. It's controlled by the knob on the fan housing.

Wait 24 hours with the fridge. If the freezer isn't down to 10 degrees by then, somethings wrong.

And yeah, when it's plugged in the charger should be working. If you have a meter, check the voltage at the battery when plugged in. DC voltage should be around 14 volts, more or less. With the trailer unplugged, battery should read around 12.5 vdc.

Enjoy your new toy. I really like mine.

Lots of discussion, pro and con on that. That is one reason it is designed for use. Many elect to not use it in gas stations and some roads do not allow them in tunnels.

Do some reading and make up your own mind.

I use mine but sometimes it blows out and if the fridge is cold and not opened it will keep frozen for 4-5 hours just fine.

I start my fridge on propane the evening before I am ready to go camping. By mid morning the next day, it is down to temperature.

As for running the fridge on propane while driving - there are a lot opinions on that. The owner's manual says no, but they have to worry about liability. I drive with mine on and shut it off briefly when refueling, for safety's sake. My dealer said it is common practice to do so. I just ask myself - why else would the fridge be manufactured with the "Auto" mode switch - if it is running on propane, it automatically switches over to electric when I plug into shore power, and when I disconnect the shore power, it automatically switches back to propane. To me, shutting it off seems to negate that feature.

My opinion. And there will probably be others who feel their reasons for not running the fridge while driving are just as valid. In the end, it is a personal decision you will have to make.

BTW - Congrats on the new TT! Looks GREAT!

Did you look inside the rear bumper? That's where my sewer hose was stored. Have you checked the fridge temp yet?

Jayco has manuals you can download on their site. Most of the manufacturers of the products like the fridge and the air conditioner, etc. do also. It might take a while to find them all, but then you will have them all for reference.

with sitting that long and in storage, check inner and outer tire sidewalls for dry rot and cracking.

I was annoyed to find the switch closest to the bathroom door was the fan instead of the light... I switched them around to be light first and fan second.

Congrats Kodiak!

Still keep an eye on the tires.

Have heard of some carrying 2 spares, usually those taking longer trips, or with tires that are getting older.

As you probably have read, after you get loaded for a trip, hit a CAT scale and weigh 3 times.
1- Truck and trailer ready to roll down the road (w/ w.d. bars "latched up").
2- Truck and trailer, but w/ w.d. bars "unlatched".
3- Truck only, but leave the hitch in, w.d. bars in the bed. I usually just park the trailer back where the "big rigs" park.

This will allow you to figure out your tw (tongue weight), and make sure your hitch is set up correctly.

Make sure you take a broom handle (or similar) to reach the call button!

Enjoy the new camper!!!

When I go on an extended boondock hunting trip, I carry two spares for the TT and two additional spares for the TV (like most trucks it has one underneath). However, when I am just doing common camping trips to the usual sites with easy road access I leave the additional stuff at home.

Make sure the water heater tank is full of water before turning on the heater.
If you have two switches for it (One propane and one electric) the electric switch will only work on 110v power so you have to be plugged in. Our electric switch will light up and look like it is on even when we are unplugged.
It has fooled the wife a couple times......

Fridge - love my battery-operated thermometers from Amazon! The reader is a strong magnet on the door so that a glance (without opening the doors) tells the temp of both the fridge and freezer.

I bought a fan like this one and it really helps keep the fridge cool. You have to run wire down the drain tube to connect to a 12v hot wire but it's an easy addition. Dometic Norcold Refrigerator Fan for RV 12 Volt | eBay
