314BDS Owners - Get in here!!!

First off....new member....New Jayco 314BDS!!!





Super excited about the unit. I went to the dealer intent on buying the 304BHS....but for 2 extra feel of TT length you get the second bathroom door, larger bunkroom, bigger bunks, etc. etc. I am a little worried I now have "too much" trailer (i.e. too long as I upgraded from a 27 footer) but I remember being scared of the 27 footer at one point....that quickly went away.


Couple of things I need help on:

* [Big One] The trailer tongue is only large enough to support a single battery. I have two 6-volt batteries, so I need room for two batteries to get a working 12-V system. What have other owners done? Are you only using a single battery?? I ended up having my local Jayco service center weld me an additional tray for a second battery to the tune of $200.

* Is there a battery disconnect switch on this unit? Cannot find any evidence of one....but most higher end units have them.

* The unit had extensive rock-chip damage on the front cap upon delivery. It is getting fixed under warranty. What should I do to prevent this from happening again? Will mud-flaps on my truck go along way or should I look into installing some diamond plate?

Congratulations on your new TT. As for preventing future rock chip damage. I would go to an automotive aftermarket shop that installs paint protection film. Works great on cars.

I have the 31 RKS and the dealer installed a second battery on there before I even picked it up. I think I'm running two 12 volt batteries in parrallel for the slide and electric jack on the front. He said it was added insurance and did not even charge me for it. I thought that was pretty nice.

Welcome to the JOF pbohart! We have mud-flaps installed. We don't have any dings but then again our Jayflight is not fiberglass and comes with that diamond plate. Congrats on the new tt

The 314BDS is the next TT we are buying. It may not be this year, but it will happen by the time we start camping next year.
I absolutely love the floor plan on the 314BDS!!!!
I understand your fear of towing soemthing longer. I currently own a 25RKS, so going from 25 to 32 feet is going to take some time.

We went with the 314BDS as our first purchased trailer (previously rented 27'). Yes this is a huge unit, but with 3 kids it gets utilized. The only thing I do not like about this is there seems to be little outside storage.

Since I am new to TT, why the need for an extra battery? As for a disconnect, I have been taking the fuse out.

I am also not too sure how you would put diamond plate on the fiberglass front cap???

Well I have a 2011 25RKS and its not 25ft long it's 28'6" from bumper to tongue so the 314bds should be about 35' long

25 feet to 32 feet OR 28 to 35 feet is the same in my book.

mjwills - two batteries provide almost double the life of a single battery. Using 2 six volt batteries also provides much more battery life than 2 twelve volt batteries. You hook up the two six volt batteries so that they form a 12v circuit - but since the batteries are much heavier duty they last much longer than 12s.
