32BHDS Outdoor Kitchen Door

We got a 32 BHDS one year ago. When opening the Outdoor Kitchen Door after a rain, water would run out from the latch (water was being held in the door). The latch plate was also showing rust from the water.

I stored the trailer indoors for the winter, and now taking the trailer back to the dealer to fix. Did anybody else have this issue? This has been the only warranty issue I have found with the trailer.

I have read a few posts where people have stated the outdoor kitchen door was leaking. Most had to readjust the hinges to get the door to seal correctly. One post even mentioned the dealer ordering him a new storage door.

No issues with ours leaking, whether it is on site or after driving through downpours. Ditto what usmc616 said, I have seen it mentioned elsewhere.

I dropped it off at the dealer on Friday. I showed them where the water was running out of the latch on the bottom when opening the door. They will investigate. They noticed that all the latch handle screws and nuts on the inside were rusting.

Will keep everybody informed.

I also asked if they ever put an awning over the outdoor kitchen. She was going to check to see if it could be done. That is the one thing that I would really like!

Mine is also doing this but have not got it in yet to be fixed. The other person who got a new door has said it did not work. (same issue)

I have tried caulking behind the door latches and this did not help either.

In my opinion the source of the leak is in the door latches or frim the hinge up top. Ibtried drilling two weep holes in the bottom of the door frame (underneath) to get the water to drain there instead of at that latch. This did not solve which makes me think its not the hinge up top. I need to get this in but keep it on a seasonal site. We all need to call jayco to get a resolution as the dealers don't seem to know the issue and I've had a hard time finding others with the issue!

Agree... I was very surprised myself to see this happen. I am going to look at again tomorrow night. I might take the slam latches off and investigate.

I have not heard back from Dealer. I will let you know what they said they did, and if it works (it better).

So I looked at mine for about 10 minutes today and have no idea where the water is coming from. There was not much in the latch and none dripped out.

I spoke to a dealer about this issue today. They said they've seen it plenty on the 324BHDS, but NOT the 314BDS. I asked "why?" Was told (and shown) that there's a "lip" over the Eagle Super Lite 314, but not on the Jay Flight 324.

Dealer said he's actually installed a "lip" over the outdoor kitchen door on one of the 324's he had repaired. He didn't elaborate on the install, but I'd assume there were some screws and caulking involved. This way as the water runs down the side, it's diverted by the "lip" away from the door & the seal around the door.

I picked up my trailer on Saturday morning. They had removed the handles, lubricated, and reseated the handles. They believe that was where the water was entering.

He also put silicon into the holes that were under the latch. If it leaks now, the water should stay in the door, and not drain into trailer.

As of this morning, it has started raining! I will be able to check tonight to see if there is any water in the door.

So it has been over a year, and after rain on Saturday, my door poured water out when I opened it.

Anybody else solved this problem.

My dealer became useless after they expanded to multiple brands and grew.

I don't have an outdoor kitchen but I have a question. Is it possible to make it leak while at the same time prevent that leak from entering the camper? Was thinking that water is moving down the inside edge of seal and collecting at the bottom. Could you just allow that water to keep going by making a path through the seal? And drill the door on the bottom to allow it to leak? If you can't seal it you can let it out without opening the door is my thinking here.

Dadof4,

you got lucky, my dealer became useless after i signed the dotted line, i showed up for my demo and it was down hill from there. i guess i didn't spend enough to buy the customer service part.

But to your point, my rear door is doing the same thing, holding water, rusting latch plates. still waiting for a response on that as well as many other things.

including fire damage as a result of a failed 30A-20A adapter that the dealer provided, as i handed it back to him and asked if he'd ever scene this before... "yeah, i have seen that before, and it think maybe there was a recall that came out on those.." that would have been useful information to have had a couple months ago.

Latch Bucket

Lippert Components sells a plastic latch bucket (SKU: 227105 ) that you can install into the latch hole to prevent the leaking water from migrating throughout the front sill of the slide out.

Hi dad,

I don't understand, water "was being held in the door"?

A pic is worth a lot. Can you elaborate?

Sorry. The post just before mine revived it, and I didn't notice.
