50 Amp male/30 amp female adapter question

My TT is a 30 AMP rig and I will be purchasing an adapter to use for 50 amp hookups. Question is: does anyone have thoughts/pros/cons to each kind of adapter? There is one that has an extension cord between the two ends

http://www.amazon.com/Voltec-16-0050...+30+amp+female

and there is one style that is just a straight adapter, no cord.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Arcon-RV-Mot...27dd1e&vxp=mtr

Would love to hear feedback on what y'all have and which may be better or worse and why or why not? Thanks.

I like the dogbone (18" extension cord) style better. The reason being with the straight type you have your heavy cordset hanging another 3" out from the outlet which can sag and lead to a poor connection with the receptacle.

The straight adapter in not practical, because it interferes with closing the power box in addition to being prone to come loose.

Good advise from all but you may also want to know why.

Get a a variety of them and someday they will come in handy.

Since I'm not an electrician, is there any problem plugging into the 50 amp? What is the impact on a TT 30 amp system? Is it better to use the 50 amp instead of the 30 amp?

Plugging into the 50 amp breaker means if there is something wrong it has to trip a 50 amp breaker instead of a 30 amp breaker. If the 30 amp is available plug in there. Of course, the power center in your trailer has breakers and fuses that are rated at 30 amps or below, so if something goes wrong inside the trailer they will trip off first.

There is no problem or impact on the 30 amp RV. It is always best to use the 30 amp receptacle if it is available and in good condition. The only time I would use the 50 amp receptacle is if the 30 amp connection was loose. Better to have a good 50 amp connection than a poor 30 amp one.

My TT has a main 30 amp breaker and that will trip before the 50 amp breaker on the CG pedestal. I always prefer the 50 amp hook up, it is usually less used and in better condition.

I have the opposite problem. 50 amp camper and most sites I've been to are only 30 amps. I have to adapt the other way and keep a lot of stuff turned off, or risk popping the post breaker.
