A/C won't shut off?

For our first trip we went to a place with electrical hook-ups in case there were electrical problems. We used the A/C most of the day because it was pretty warm. After we shut it off every ten minutes or so it seemed to want to start up on its own but couldn't quite do it. It would make funny sounds for about five minutes or so and then go back off. This repeated for an hour or more. The only way I finally got it to completely shut down for good was by tripping the CB. Any ideas?

How were you turning it off. Was the thermostat switch set to off? It should not be doing that unless the thermostat is calling for cooling or fan.

Did it ever work when you bought it?

Needs to be checked out by your dealer.

Yes, turned off via the thermostat. It seemed to work fine at the dealer when I did the PDI.
