Air Deflector

I've seen the air deflectors used on 5vers but not on any tt. Does anyone out there use one for a tt? What benefits/detriments are you having by using it? What mounting system, I would be interested if it could be mounted to a roof rack of a yukon xl. finally what brand/model are you using? Thanks in advance fot the input, just seeing if it worth the time and investment.

I could be wrong but my understanding from another forum was that the break even point was somewhere around a half a million towing miles. Some swear by them and others say use the money for something else.

Will you take the system down when your not towing... many dont and then it just cost them fuel.. and for a TT if you dont have a cap on your truck it is USELESS. if you do have a cap or are going to get one then just get one that rises in the back and it will act like a full body air wing.

I don't think the deflectors out there are big enough to really make a notable difference. Just attempting to deflect the air above the TT isn't enough, you would think that the wind should also be deflected "around" the sides of the front cap of the TT as well. Depending on where the deflector is located (distance from TT) you could end up with one monster deflector!

I'm sure there are some wind tunnel tests that show they make a difference in frontal drag, but who tows consistently under controlled/optimum wind tunnel testing criteria?

I agree with member clutch's statement in respect to the tow milage required to see an investment justification.

I would take it off when not towing. It is a Yukon XL so it could be mounted all the way back

I remember seeing an auto/science program on TV some time ago that looked at the effect of these wind deflectors; they discovered that rather than decreasing drag/increasing economy, they actually resulted in poorer fuel economy. I believe it was because they could not be installed close enough to the trailer to correctly impact the movement of air around the trailer. Due to the turbulent effect of the air between the deflector/tv/trailer, it created more resistance. I'm curious, has any users out there made comparisons on economy with & without one of these?
