Air in Hot Water Lines

Hello,

I seem to consistently have air in my hot water lines and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong to cause this.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

You're not doing anything wrong. On ours, after hooking up the hose to the water spigot, we turn on the hot side of a faucet, and let it run until the air/foamy water is clear. The air is most likely coming from the hot water heater. It's a common occurrence. Even after the first fill of the season, we bleed off the air every time we hook up. It can take a few minutes, especially if it's a large TT with lots of plumbing. Hope this helps a little.

It's probably trapped air in the hot water tank. When I fill my water heater tank, I open the external pressure relief valve which bleeds off most of the air.

It will not hurt the system to flow water out of the valve, and onto the control board under it.

If you're talking about when you initially set up, then that's very common. Almost impossible to prevent, even. The air in your hose has to go somewhere, so it usually goes into your water heater via the cold supply line.

You can reduce the air in your lines by not emptying your water heater when packing up. Of course, this implies you're headed to another campground and not your storage lot. You can also reduce the amount of air in your hose by running water through it before connecting it to your trailer.

When I set up, I run water through my hose, raise it to the level of the inlet on the side of the trailer, and then shut it off. That leaves very little air in the hose when I connect it up. Then, I turn the water back on, go inside, and turn the hot water on just a tad. This empties the air in the water heater and hot water lines. Then i do the same for the cold water side. This leaves me with no air in the lines for the duration of my stay. I repeat the procedure when I pack up and go to another location.

Another thing it could be is if antifreeze got into the water heater it will cause foaming. If you want you can pull the drain plug to fully drain it and fill it again, maybe more than once if needed to flush this out. When filling the tank put the plug back in, turn the water back on and open the pressure relief to allow (most of) the air out of the tank.
