Allergies ?

Has anyone experienced allergic reactions to their Jayco ? Such as upper respiratory, sinus, and watery eyes.We have only used our new trailer a few times and it seems I have had some type of allergic reaction each time. Could be coincedental to the outside surroundings but not sure. I did not have problems with our previous trailer. Just wonder if there is some type of product that was used in the manufacturing that could be causing this ?

You may be allergic to some of the chemicals used in the manufacturing process. Open the windows and roof vents and let the RV air out for a week. Also a thorough vacuuming will help.

I vacuumed it good after we purchased it . I have some vent covers to install and after doing that I will open the vents and leave them open and see if that helps.

I had similar issues last year with our new 5er. Hopefully this year will be better. I think its all the varnish and new carpet smell in such a small area gets all at once and WHAMO.

We bought a new trailer last summer and leave the doors and windows open as much as the weather will let us. I think 75% of the smell is the linoleum flooring. I work in new houses that have the same smell when linoleum is installed.

We bought a memory foam mattress topper and the DW had symptoms just like you describe afterward. She told me either the topper went or her, well I gave the topper away to my eldest son and still have my beloved DW. The trailer fumes never seemed to bother her though, and after 3+ years have surely dissipated by now.

A friend of mine has allergies to formaldehyde. She keeps her ceiling exhaust fan on when she is camping. She also airs out the camper for a few days before she goes camping. I hope this helps.

Do the Jayco`s have formaldeheyde used in the manufacturing ? For some reason I did not think they used that although I could be wrong. I don`t think its the vinyl flooring cause I put that in my house and my previous TT and did not have any reactions unless its a different glue that Jayco used. I am still planning on installing the vent covers and leaving the vents open and see is that helps.

Thanks for all the suggestions and tips.

I bought a Jayco 2017 last year. I live in the camper full time and I have non stop coughing, throat tickles and watery eyes, nose runs with all this too! It seems worse when I lay down! I do live on a gravel road, but to my knowledge I have never been allergic to dust! I am worried about chemicals. Not short of breath but coughing and coughing all night is just too much!

If I was sure I'd get the same ultimatum, I would rum out and buy a topper today!!!

People can be allergic to so many things, one thought I had is that is it possible that you are camping in areas where pollen and allergens are more prevalent? I know I had similar issues when mine was new and I still do after many years.

Another thought, my Doctor told me that people who have never had allergies can develop them as they get older... which of course wouldn't be the case for me. ~CA

You may be reacting to the off-gassing of building materials used in the construction of the trailer. Formaldehyde being chief amongst them as it’s used in almost every material used in the finish construction process. Some good info here: https://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/formaldehyde/home/index.html

Since your trailer is a 2013 I don't think the off gassing would be a problem. Is it possible you might be allergic to mold in the trailer? Is it possible there might be a small leak somewhere and a small amount of mold might be in one of the walls. If you have carpet get your wife on her hands and knees and look for a damp spot in the carpet or along the walls. If I get on my hands and knees I'll need the rescue squad to get me up, LOL

I have always smelled the glue that was used to glue the linoleum down, from the trailer being closed up.

Turbo-Power posted that question 9 years ago... in 2013. LOL

Could be a foam mattress, or isocyanates (foam insulation), or formaldehyde. Let that camper air out and keep a window and vent open when camping. You might get rid of off-gassing as time goes by.
